Evacool vs Waeco vs Engel

Has anyone used or bought one of the yellow evacool fridge freezers with the two compartments? They seem to be well priced for their size and have the Danfoss compressor BD 35 in the 55 litre size which is what I would probably get. At BCF they are about 950 bucks. The Waeco is around the same price for the same size but I prefer the adjustability of size of compartments for the evacool.

The Engel is obviously a lot more expensive in this size is it worth the extra money? Any help appreciated.

I don't know about the new model, but I had the RF47DT (fibreglass version based on the cooler box) up until a mate bought it off me a couple of weeks ago. It was a good unit. Freezer worked well in all conditions (VERY cold) and the fridge was also at least as cold as the Engels we now have in all conditions including 50-odd degree heat. I'd have another if I needed two zones again.

check the current draw of it and make sure you have enough power to run it...
ie...if you are gonna be stopped for three days.....make sure your batteries can run it for that time...including your camp lights and chargers...etc...
otherwise you will need to go for a drive just to charge up your batteries....</span>

I think you are in a win win win situation. All of them are excellent in there own way. They all have plus's and negatives, but I dont think you could go wrong with any.

I have a Waeco CF 80 but would have no probs with either of the others, $$$ talk :wink:

i have two engles 32L and 40L and my dad brought a 40L with travel bag and hindge lock on saturday 5% RRP, i have had no problem, my two hold -18 in the mid thirties

a mate has either a 60 or 80 waeco and has had no problems

another mate has has his last two custom made and has not had a problem

the only thing i have noticed is nearly everytime time i have been into springer 12V shop they quite often have a waeco waiting to be picked up after either service or breakdown, i have never asked what was the problem aprt from them saying they are a repair agent

i went engle because of there name and reputation (should i be driving a toyota than), my second choice would be waeco

Engels have a really good name for reliability. I thought if it breaks down int he desert it's going to reck my holiday, and result in everyone being very unhappy, so I bought a 40l engel https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

So they all sound as though they should do the job and the engel gets the knod for optimum reliability. I should have also asked about the Chaescolds as a mate bought a reely old looking one but it runs great off gas when we are away. The thing I dont like about the chesies is they seem to be a lot bigger and heavier than the electric ones. I like the space.

Do not buy a Chescold. They do not keep as cold as the others in cool conditions and in hot conditions in a car barely work at all. They are not bad on gas when camping long term but not good. You will eventually be un happy with one.

I have a 1984 39L engel which is beat up, rusted and could tell some stories. It is magic, and still managed to hold a frosty temp through summer temps of 48degrees on the gunbarrell this year. Unstoppable and in my mind the best for touring.

I also have a 40L 3-way Chestcold. It will just hold a cool temperature off a car but is awesome on gas, with a 10L freezer compartment that is an ice machine is need be. I only use it if I'm going to be in one spot for more than about 3-4 days, on a fishing/surfing trip. THe chestcold is also completely silent (which can be hard to tell if its actually on).

if anybody in brisbane is real keen on a waeco than i know the guy that runs the accessary shop at brisbane camperland. he has one only of the older type (the type that use the power supply to connect 240V to the 12V connection) waeco 50L with transit bag and and power suply for around $700. i was going to buy it for my dad however he went an engle

waeco have just brought out there new model which can two inputs one for 240V and one for 12V instead of just the one

Thats the one. Its a two tone a mustardy green colour with rusted scratches and dents all over it. THe compressor came loose recently and I opened up the grill to find it sitting completely free from its mounts. THe entire thing was rusted and looking old and tired. A few new screws and a clean and its buisness as usual. Unstoppable.
