Hi just a quick question, Anyone had experience running a 235 on a 8 inch rim? Most manufacturing websites recommend up to a 7.5 inch rim. I know that 265 and 255 would work on the 8 inch rim, but am asking specifically about a 235 on 8 inch rim.

Is half an inch really going to be a problem? The bloke from Bob Jane reckoned it'd be fine, but the fella from tyrepower reckoned probably not.

They are a bit more prone to popping off the bead at lower pressures on a wider rim.

And of course, the obligatory legal bit - they aren’t specified for an 8” rim so not roadworthy. (Do it at your own risk)

How low of pressures are we talking?

If it's not recommended by the manufacturer don't do it. The guys installing them are doing the ole she'll be right with ya!
Plus not roadworth as T said. We're talking tyres the only thing separating you from the ground. Bald is one thing but the wrong size your asking for trouble.

As said, you'll really have issues with it popping öff the bead at lower pressures, plus **** getting jammed in the bead off road as it's so exposed.

That's if they'll even seat on that wide a rim.

My old mate the tyre fitter had to use tubes overnight to force a 265 bread out to an 8" rim, or the big blaster thingy and try and blow them out to seat.

So hold on, are we saying that even a 265 is too narrow for an 8 inch rim?

Yes, a 265 is for 7”

We often struggled seating 265's on GU Patrol rims.
GQ's weren't an issue as they were 7's

Wheel and Tyres standards sets the min/max/recommended wheel width.

It depends on the particular tyre including the profile. P265/60R18 Michelin Latitude Tour is listed as suited for 7.5" - 9.5" rims.

That’s an 18” tyre Graeme.

We’re talking 16”

I hadn't seen any reference to rim diameter but have since spotted the vehicle group.

Well if I'm honest, when I got my tax return balanced I considered getting some new rubber, down sizing etc. .. but that was after a day driving around on the road. Today, i whent up the bush. It's been raining here non stop for the last three days, so it was wet, steep and muddy and great. Lets just say I no longer want to swap my 285 mts for 265 ats. What was I thinking!. I do however intend to fix the leaky gutter and replace the door seals.
