G'day.
whilst lying in my favourite spot under the 300tdi tracking down - you guessed it - an oil leak.... I run my finger in the timing cover wading hole - and find a drop of clear liquid smelling a lot like Diesel...... [bawl]:bat:

well folks... any suggestions where it might be coming from? exterior on the pump is all dry, including lift pump and injectors...... is there a seal in the front where the timing cover is, and is this a common place for them to leak? I found a thread mentioning throttle shaft bush and seal to be leaking...
happy to try replacing a seal in situ if it can be done RELATIVELY safely... but haven't played with the pump before...
and where to start..?

There would be a seal at the front of the injector pump, but I would say it is not DIY serviceable.

Not diy im afraid. The pump needs to have the front drive flange removed with a puller and then the seal can be replaced. Usually the seal leaks at about the same time as the pump requiring an overhaul.....

Thanks guys, that's what I thought...

"giving up around the same time" - just cautiously asking what sort of timeframe I would have to tackle the repair... months, weeks, days, hours or minutes [bighmmm]
