Picked the truck up from a post-trip service and a detail. I’ve never noticed much exhaust noise from it, but the windows were down as I left and it was pretty noticeable echoing between the factory units.
So I decided to put a camera on the back and scoot around the block to see how noisy it was. Admittedly I was driving it harder than usual for the sake of the exercise, but it was much louder than I had expected it would be.
The intake noise was hard to get because of the wind noise, so gave it some revs putting it in the garage for that.
The exhaust is straight through from the turbo with only a high flow muffler. No Cat or resonator etc. Honestly there is no exhaust noise in the cabin...
Snorkel is safari with nugget air duct kit.
Also running BAS 170 remap with big intercooler.
Not the most exciting video, but here it is if you’re interested:

I have effectively the same setup, but only the rear silencer remaining. I seem to get a lot more turbo ‘whirring’ as I shift up than I can hear in your video, but your exhaust note is deeper. What high flow muffler have you installed? Is it in place of the middle silencer?

Loads of black smoke and sounds like its running on 4 cylinders!
I would take it to my local V8 specialist immediately.

Yeah, just the center silencer remains, its straight through glass packed muffler. After hearing this I'm almost tempted to put a small rear silencer in. Almost

Are you saying that yours is not as loud as the video.

To the OP Was this Defender in at my place?
*If it is I remember as stated that it had a centre sport muffler only.
*If you want to make it silent again, fit the resonator at the back (I normally drop all the others and leave the rear resonator for silent running).
*I think it sounds bloody good personally and was prolly the quickest Defender I have driven! (if the same vehicle)

Hi Daz,
Yeah it sure was (and i need to get it in to you again for the adaptor shaft and hopefully an ATB or 2).
Correct, just has a 'glass packed muffler in the centre.
I was really surprised when i put camera on there, from inside i'd never heard any exhaust noise at all. Definitely no plans to shut it up, i recon it sounds tops - almost TD5 worthy!
thanks again for your work on it, the cat mod is great. I did 10,000km in the kimberly last month and was nice to not be burning my leg on the handbrake etc. Brilliant!
