Has anyone had their transmission rebuilt by pringle auto in North Melbourne. They are considerably cheaper than A & B so I am considering them.

I took my D1 there for a service a couple of years ago as I was working close by.

*** EDIT, please PM if interested in further details ***

I would use A&B and not worry about the extra $$

If you haven't learned by now, you soon will, that there is practically no link between cheap and good when it comes to servicing or parts for any vehicle, especially Land Rovers!

Even more so with ZF transmissions.

Anyone know what a 6 speed fully serviced (dual flush LG6) every 80k kms and rarely used as a tow tug should be capable of in maximum distance travelled? I imagine Ford taxis got up to 1 million kms?

Thanks for the replies. This is my 6th disco and what I have learnt is to ask questions and learn as much as I can before making decisions. It is highly likely that my transmission will come from A&B. I just wanted to see if anyone on the forum had gone down a different path. Cheers

Is there a ZF branch in Melbourne? I used one on the outskirts of Sydney to rebuild my 3.0 D4's to better than new when the white-metal stator bushes failed which were replaced with the earlier and later bronze bushes and an upgraded torque converter.

North of Melbourne, try calling Chris from Airport Automatics too - he's a top operator and knows his stuff.

For something so important, don't skimp $s. A&B Automatics in Dandenong are authorised ZF experts, why go elsewhere?

A&B For me - it was cheaper than a new car .....esp considering the trans was rooted in mine !

Due to the name and shame rules on this forum I can't say, but I wouldn't use A&B personally...

Really [bighmmm] Must be the distance [tonguewink]

One member i know of had a 3 terrible zf rebuild s that failed in a very short period of time by someone else and ended up going to A&B and the result was one very happy customer that could not speak highly enough of them [thumbsupbig]

I get that, but that's not my experience.

+1 for A & B.

I get it that individual experiences are exactly that, individual, but I've nothing but good thing to after my MY14+ was serviced earlier this year.

I replaced the transmission in my former D3 a few years ago. It oddly was cheaper to by a new box than a reconditioned one at that time!

It might be worth ringing a few helpful places for a new ones price.

This has got makings of a group buy. Wonder how much ex UK they are?
