Whenever I go to an aftermarket 4wd store like ARB or TJM etc none of them have any bars snorkels etc designed for the RR2. They keep saying to me that if the demand is there they will produce it.

I think it is about time for P38a drivers to band together so at least there are some options available.

I would like people to give me ideas as to what accessories would be most used by us owners and start a petition on this forum and try and get it signed by people in all the Land Rover Clubs who would have a serious interest in these products across Australia. If we could get a lot of signatures and send them to these companies they would surely have to consider it.

The companies are US owned so I was thinking of getting this going on the Range Rovers net aswell as there are many more p38 owners in the states. These cars are coming up to the age where they are being taken off road in more and more challenging conditions as purchase prices are coming down it is time to get some accessories made for them.

My first few would be:

Bull bar

Snorkel

Rear Tyre Carrier (which I think Opposite Lock did make at one stage)

Long range tanks.

I realise that specialist companies make some of this stuff ie Airtek and safari for the snorkel so perhaps the petition should go to them as well.

Put your hands up p38 drivers who would be willing to get this started.

So no p38er want accessories or is it more likely not too many on the forum and none have read this yet?

Well, I've got a bull bar, a rear bar and swingaway wheel carrier. I don't really need a long range tank but they are made for the P38A - see pix I took of one at http://rangerovers.net/outfitting/index.html#fueltank (sorry about the quality - I think I may have some better pix). Sim Hasker has a second-hand one for sale in Brissie.

Hardy Neale makes a bull bar and Jase (both on this forum) modified a Disco 2 Safari bar to fit.

A snorkel would be a problem owing to the location of the air filter, It would be bloody long! Or one could make it like Chris Crompton's - see http://rangerovers.net/outfitting/snorkels...s/snorkel4.html (http://rangerovers.net/outfitting/snorkels/snorkel4.html)

There are other smaller company’s out there that will do accessories for your Range Rover. You should be able to find them trough people on this forum. Try Brothers Offroad, I think they are up your neck of the woods.

Charlie - I think it's a great idea and if I replace my cuurent RR one day it will probably be with a P38 (due to price, mainly). Given the complete lack of interest I had from ARB regrading a bar to fit my RR (Classic but with SRS) they definitely need the "wake up call" you are suggesting from P38 owners. Otherwise how are they going to know there is "sufficient demand" out there.

You might also point out in your petition to them what you said re:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> These cars are coming up to the age where they are being taken off road in more and more challenging conditions as purchase prices are coming down it is time to get some accessories made for them. [/b][/quote]

And definitely send the petition around to all the LR and RR clubs that you can find - here in Aus and internationally. If they see there's a $ to be made they'll jump on it !

Good luck.

Ron thanks for the info I had forgotten about the Brown Davis Tank. I realise that people make special order bars and alike but it would be nice to have some that are redily commercially available. Jase's idea of modifying a Disco one is great but am wondering the legalities re: crashing and causing injury and compatibilty with the cars airbags and compliance etc. I have spoken to Hardy and his bar looks the business but it would be nice for the general public to have choice.

Regarding the Airbox on the p38 it is just about the same place as on a Disco 2 (and it is the same type) although the bonnet opens from along the outside guard not inside it ( if you know what I mean), so it might need to be modified somewhat. The angle of the A pillar is slightly different also so this would be another problem.

I dont think it would require too much R&D for these manufacturers to modify existing designs.

If anyone would be interested to take a petition to their next club meeting and sound people out regarding what accessories they would most use that would be great.

Ron BTW Sim Hasker sounds like the father of a guy I went to school with. There cant be more than one Sim Hasker in Brisbane ask him how Tom is Going. Tell him Charles Noble says Hello. Tom and I were mates in Junior school at Churchie. Didn't know he had a p38 but would make sense as he had a 2 door clasic back in 87 or so.
