Moving on to all grain brewing and I needed a large pot for the mash, picked up a 40ltr as pot along with an ss ball valve and a 2200w electric element.
Now to get a piece of perforated ss to make a false bottom to keep the bag off the element when I do biab brewing.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180812/0ec3c6ebbceec3020c5738deaac21e7e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180812/2ff216eeb45cffd5669aa6fec618f3ea.jpg

What thermo control unit are you using with your set up?

Not sure yet Lee, maybe an inkbird dual controller so that I can use it for a temp controlled fridge.

Cant believe its almost a year since i did this, put it aside while i looked for some ss mesh to make a false bottom for the pot.
Looking on AHB yesterday and a member was giving away a large sheet of ss mesh that he cut a piece off for the same purpose, i will will be cutting a larger diameter than the pot so that i can fold the edges over to make legs so it sits higher than the element.
Will also be getting a couple of STC1000 temp controllers, one for the fermenter and one for the pot to regulate the mash temps.

This is what I made, crab cooker from the old Rays Outdoors. It has an inner basket that keeps the bag off the element.
I use a Grainfather now that my mates bought me for my 50th.

GF is nice but to be honest a BIAB setup is much cheaper and produces beer that is just as good IMHO.
If you BIAB and use an app like Beersmith it is not much different to a GF. Don't get me wrong GF is great but I would have stayed happily doing BIAB.

I made the pot for BIAB and just needed the mesh for the false bottom, could have done without it but it will make it less likely to melt or rupture the bag on the element.

False bottom is done and fits nicely , sits about 25mm above the element which is what I was aiming for.
