"After a decade in the wilderness, Russell is back".

I can see the Toymota crowd picking up on that - Owing a Land Rover will see you stranded for that long!

Im a bit annoyed there were no defender jokes,I thought at the very least he would have had trouble locating the battery to jump start the van, or even when he washed it, would have been good if fifty litres of water had run out when he opened the door...
Anyone else notice any obvious missed gags?

I made one last week in the other Russell Coight thread.

BTW, when did LR move the Defender battery to the engine bay? :)

Maybe there were no LR jokes because the programme sponsor was LR.

I have to say I thought it was pretty puerile and turned off after about 15 minutes after the Kombi ran away. Seemed like a waste of a good Kombi to me.
The pull front off Commodore has been done to death in the past.
He is a bit of a one trick pony.

He’s a ****. Which is what he’s trying to be. ..but despite the weak, outmoded, Aussie outback cliche humour, he does Defender owners no favours and just represents the worst traits of Aussie bogan bushinability. The days of poor quality quirky Aussie humour are long gone. Coight needs to vanish quickly into the embarrassingly self-conscious annals of Croc Dundee and Priscilla.

Ah...yup. As I said, despite it being deliberate it’s complete rubbish. Better examples of the genre are, The Castle and Kath & Kim, but they’re tired too. ...time to move on from cringe as humour. It had its day.

Oi, croc dundee is a ledge! Cant wait for CDIIII - Crocodile Dundee in Shanghai, feat Jackie Chan and Hulk Hogan.

We have youtube these days, maybe Zeros can film a funnier Coyt! Wouldnt be hard.

I missed the new episode, but I was hoping the show would evolve. Sounds like same old sillyness.

I loved it. Yes its predicable and yes it is the same old same old. However, it is different to a lot of other stuff on tv. For some reason the hand shakes when it's someone else's hand has me in stitches.

So true!

However when watching the first episode of the new series I did cringe when I saw Russel attach a snatch-strap to the tow ball of his car, given the many cases of people being injured in that scenario when the tow ball breaks. It didn't seem that particular action was done as satire.

I think some of you take it too seriously.
I hate the show personally BUT I wont miss a chance to see a Defender on tv/video/etc....
AND there was plenty of the Defender!!

There seems to be a neutral product placement as I never heard any mention of "Landie" "Land Rover" only ref I heard was to "vehicle"

So did I.

I actually expected to see the towball go through the car window, not the car front ripped off.

Would have been a much better lesson to all concerned if they had shown what can actually happen when you use the ball.

Also, it's obvious Defender hand brakes don't work! :D

I watched the last episode, but wasn't impressed,...no need for the number of times his "privates" got involved etc.
But, if I'm around, and there's nothing better on, I'll probably give it another go.

Each time I flicked to it he had his pants down.
Hasnt got used to the Defender handbrake yet.

Hi all

My wife and I did think his last episode was funny. Most of the "accidents" he has are predictable but it builds up to them with the right amount of anticipation. As an example, with the indigenous painting we KNEW he was going to spill that pain can all over her painting. We just didn't know exactly when or how. When he pulled out the bogged car with the snatch strap, that result did take us by surprise. Oh and the star picket driver, I didn't quite know what he would do to himself, I just knew that in his hands it's dangerous. It's not superb comedy, that style of comedy is a bit dated, but we think overall it's funny and enjoyable.

Hi

For fencing on my farm I use a manual picket driver which is a steel tube with some concrete in the end and two handles on it. I've looked at the motorised ones. Lifting a running petrol engine with a percussion end on it to just above my head height is beyond me. I can't think how anyone could consider that a a good idea. Professional fencers and many farmers though do use them. If I tried to use one I'd end up like Coight :-)

I use a manual one but if I were doing a lot a pneumatic one would be a lot better.

Hi,
I find him hard work to watch, some how the scripted comedy falls flat or is old hack or just not funny.
Perhaps Hoges needs to have some input.
Cheers
