I am replacing my old M8000 with a new 9.5XP .
The motor on the XP is longer than the old one .
In the process of measuring up to see what I need to do to fit it , I notice that the ARB bar has a cut out in the opposite end [ passengers / winch g box end ] that looks like it was purpose made to do exactly what I want except it is at the wrong end .
Am I missing something , or do I need to cut out the other end [ drivers / winch motor end ]
Car is a 97 Defender 130 with ARB bar of similar vintage .

Looking on the Warn website , it appears that the heavyweight series winches , 12000lb ,have the motor & box on the opposite end , I guess that is the reason for the cutout .

Interesting, the cutout on my ARB is on the drivers side. I’m thinking about buying a Runva but was tossing up between the 11000lb or 13000lb. They’re just over a grand, how much is the Warn ?

I'm pretty sure the 9.5XP doesn't fit. The 9000lb motor comes to about 1mm from the chassis rail where the 9.5XP is basically the bigger 6hp motor on the same winch, so it doesn't fit unless they have changed the mounts somehow. The cut outs on the other side are for the 10-12,000lb winches which are a reversed design compared to the 9000lb and 9.5XP

I think I paid $2000 for the Warn & I had to modify the bar to fit it .
It fits in nicely now & is working well .
Double the price , but I had a really good run out of the old one , cleaned it up & put new grease & gaskets in it , still works like a charm so can't knock warn .
Is it worth double the price ? Ask me in 20 years time .
