I put my hand up to show off the new ECB Bullbar for the D5. I must admit it looks far better in real life than what the pictures do it justice. I have the ability to powder coat it black, or loire Blue. What do you guys think. Or leave it polished Alloy.
I can tell you its a solid bar and very well thought out. Yes it looks ugly in the pics but its practical and designed well.

Looks good Lee, really transforms the look. Maybe some one good with photo shop can do a blue and black mock up for you.

Yeah looks the goods. I reckon black, especially if that’s your accessories ‘theme’.
Colour coded always looks good too - just depends if you want it to blend a bit more.

The lower skirt needs to be blacked out - then would look OK with the bumper and the upper bar work left as polished alloy or colour coded.
Now what you going to do about the ugly back end of the D5 [bighmmm]

Hi Lee.
Thanks for the photos. Looks ok but I’m not sure about all those squared-off holes.
Does it involve cutting of the guards or anything? Will it take a winch?

Hi Tony,
I asked same questions and they all serve a purpose for air flow. the Square plastic insert are actually angled up at the back. The other square holes are for the camera.
I think painting it black would make it less obvious.

Looks the part and black or colour coded would be better in my opinion[thumbsupbig]
Are they doing a winch compatible bar ?

With all the cut outs, it re-minds me of the mask worn by Hannibal Lecter.

What do you guys think.
Well, you asked. I think it looks horrible to put a bar over the existing bumper bar.

No need, is fixed now. Compared to the front it looks a million dollars.

Keeping the black accessory theme looks the goods,, but then again, I could be biased 😉

No To Winch. This really concerns me greatly with the design of the New Discovery making it difficult. I don't have the confidence to go out on my own. Even though you should never do it.

All depends on the type of tracks you want to do......
most of my touring/off road work I’ve done solo....only once have I needed the winch and that was 100% totally avoidable.

You can put a hidden winch behind the original bumper.

Re Hidden Winch Where do I get that done. I Would happily look into that.
Re Color I will try and powder coat it Matt black to match the other accessories.. Thank you guys for the input.

Matt black wouldn't suit that car, try satin black, it's half way between flat and gloss. My 2c worth

I'm getting an ECB bar for the Territory. I wanted to get it painted the same colour as the Territory. They advised not to get it painted. In the past, yhey have had troubles with the paint flaking off. They tell me paint doesn't stick too well to the alloy.

I wouldv'e thought that using an etch primer it should be ok?
But paint and painting isn't my forte.

I would have thought so too but not according to the people I have spoken to and they have fitted thousands of bull bars.

Never heard that before Mick, passed Lee in traffic last night and bar looks better in the metal.

With so many cutouts it might have been better to put just one or two longer cutouts with a metal mesh behind them.
Similar to the factory bumper. On the other hand if done in satin black the cutouts would not be so prominent.
I would also like to add a thank you for providing you new D5 as a test vehicle. Without test vehicles there would be a long wait for accessories.

The Alloy panels on a Land Rover are painted so why couldn't other alloy be painted.

The Alloy panels on a Land Rover are painted so why couldn't other alloy be painted. At a guess the bull bar would be made out of 6061, probably hardened and anodized, whereas the panels on a car would be a 5000 series, dead soft and probably not anodized?

Hi Mick,
Yep that is what they have told me. They are going to replace it with a Black Ripple one. To be honest I am not really sure. Its fantastic they gave it to me for free but having second thoughts. My poor car.

Your poor car??
Why, did you hit a roo?
Give t to me for a couple of weeks. We'll see how well the bar stand up to roo strike.
Dodged a couple last night. At least, the two I saw I dodged. Passed an echidna that was about to step on the road and drove over something about eighteen inches long that went "splat". Not sure what it was.
I was relieved to have a relatively uneventful night.

I think that a sheet of black vinyl (satin black in your case) across the bottom part of the bar where the holes are would make a lot of difference.
The holes would be less noticeable and it would align to the original bumper where the lower middle section is black.
Auto Vinyl is a reasonable price these days. You might have to replace it every 2-3 years depending on wear and tear, but it would be a quick and easy job to replace.

If it’s been prepped correctly, Powder Coated is the best way to go.

Chops they didn't give me many options.. So this was what happened. Black is defiantly Better.
Not sure I am going to keep it on to be honest. Will drive it around for a few months though to see how I like it. I would prefer those slimline bumpers with integrated lights etc. but I know its early days.

How far are the bars in front of the lights? It looks like the bar is fixed on the outside of the bumper, instead of replacing the bumper like most other bullbars. Seems a little weird, but I'm sure there's a reason I'm not aware of...

went to the local ECB dealer here in Perth and it's approx. $3k to install in the black, hammer tone.
But, cannot be installed if u have a HSE, with the surround cameras. ????
since I have already had a "run in" with a roo, the other side of Broken Hill, it's on the list.
cheers Tom

In my opinion, not the greatest looking bar ever made.

Why do they make them shiny? They go to all the trouble of making one then they make it extra crap by making it shiny. making it dark makes it less imposing/obvious. Maybe it's what the owner wanted.:Thump:

Sounds about right as the Square look is consistent with the old movie theatre Projection Booth / Bio-box openings.
Just sayin'.[smilebigeye]

The more i look at the pic,the more horrid it looks.
Doesn't do the approach angle any favours either.
Lots of small vents everywhere seem to help make it look awful.
I had an ECB bar on my very first D2,i couldn't wait to get rid of it (the bar,not the car).

If only they would remove the LR bumper bar then attach the ECB one it wouldn't look half as bad. And colour code it to the car.
