Hi Guys
dropped BlackBetty off at the mechanics thismorning for a service and preventative maintence.
Went to get her after work and she was still locked inside(hopefully 8O 8O 8O )
The hoist at work isnt working so it was easier to get somebody else to do the work.
I supplied all the parts/oil etc.
She is getting the following done.
ENGINE;oil and filters with synthetic oil, sump off and re-loctite oil pump drive.
DIFFS;oil change and new pinion seals
TRANSFERCASE/GEARBOX;oil change
PROPSHAFTS new flexi drive and uni joints(if needed)
AIR/DIESEL FILTERS replaced.

Hi Guys
She is home.
The mechanic couldnt do the rear flexi joint and pinion seal.Apparently the seal that is inside the flexijoint needs a special tool to remove it from the diff housing. He tried making his only tool, but couldnt get it to work.

He found a problem which he was unsure of but he was 100% correct. When it was up on the hoist he noticed one of the watts linkages on the rear diff had been rubbing in the diff housing,he hasnt worked on a Disco2 before but thinks the linkage is installed upside down,he said there are new bushes fitted and thinks its installed upside down.A quick check on the RAVE CD confirms it     I will have to remove the linkage, weld up the linkage as its started to wear thru and refit on the weekend.

SAND
Any of you guys who did the Lancelin trip, have a look at your air filter.Mine was chock a block full,Rocky reckons its one of the worst he has seen,AND I CLEANED IT BEFORE THE TRIP.

I will take pics of the watts link problem when I fix it.

Hi Tony
I have a wad of reciepts that they supplied with the vehicle, the previous owner kept it till the warranty ran out.If I find one proving they did the job they will get a phonecall in the morning
The fact that the salesman said they had looked after the vehicle since new was part of the decision to buy.

Hi Mahn
I think you missed the problem.
New bushes have been fitted to the watts linkage in the last 12 months, the linkage has been re-installed upside down and one of the linkages has been rubbing on the diff housing.
The local mechanic,a top bloke I will add,did my service. He is a bloody good mechanic, from the old school and also charges like the old school.

Andy

indeed I did

So much for speed reading  https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

If it is any consolation the LR place broke their special tool extracting mine so they made a heavy duty one

Ive gone thru my reciepts, none mention replacing bushes, although the last service(whilst under warrantty) states "all bushes checked and tensioned where needed" No mention of replacements.
I think it would be a "bang your head against the wall to prove they PLUCKED UP"
There is no doubt its been re-bushed,they still look new.
Hopefully its an easy "backyarders" repair that I can fix.
At least she only cost me the same as an early model cruiser 8) 8) 8) 8)

Who's this mechanic, Are you going to tell?
PM me if you like, if my carbs don't work when I put them back on I might need one! prob go to the well known NOR LR shop/garage if I do though.

And really what would you want with an old cruiser ???
It would cost you just as much to keep getting it recovered from bogs & breakdowns https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Hi Guys
watts link fixed,an easy job.I straightened and reinforced the bent linkage, all good.
BlackBettys "bum waddle" when going over speedhumps has gone, the linkage hiting the diff housing was the cause I would say.
I did take photos, but the flash was off, although they look OK on the view finder, when up-loaded to the computer they are too dark to see
