I was told to use Dextron 3 in the manual gearbox and in the transfer case is this ok?. 1998 v8 discovery 5 speed manual

Not in the transfer, use gear oil 80/90 or similar.

There are better manual gearbox oils available now, DX2 is not really the best available these days. And the transfer case should never be run on DX2 either.

I have some 85/140 will that be ok in the transfer

Penrite Transgear 75w/80 in my g/box (LT77). Only complaint is a slight balk when changing gears on a really cold morning (prob -3 and under), after a km or so its fine. There are numerous other brands of manual trans fluids that could be ok.
85w/140 prob a tad on the heavy side.
