Hi all,

Was heading back to the truck for another beer and noticed the wheel rim self lubrication system was working too well. Anyone have any tips or know the parts I'm gunna have to hit Dave up for to seal it up again?

Try tightening the flange bolts. You can do that with the wheel on.
Could also be a crack in the rubber "hub cap" or a blocked diff breather.

Now that you mention it, I did notice that that axle didn't have a breather pipe. Gunna have to get under and investigate

Sooooooooo, it looks like I've spat the gasket. Also found that the rear axle has a breather in the dif cover but the intermediate axle has no breather. If anyone out there with a 6x6 could check if it is supposed to have a breather and where it should be that would be greatly appreciated. Also, are these the same axles (albeit extended) that are used on the counties?

Another common reason for the gasket failure is loose drive flange bolts. While these could have been left loose, or missing lock washers, by far the most common reason for their loosening is loose wheel bearings.Since you have to remove the flange to replace the gasket, it is worth checking these while doing so (jack the wheel up and try to rock it).

There should be on on the top of the axle tube mid way on the left side on the intermediate axle. The rear one has the breather in that position because of the angle it is tilted to line up with the driveshaft which comes from the chassis bearing.
