Hi members,

I want to upgrade the standard head unit in my 2011 D4 . It has the Harmon Kaden speaker pack. I would like to add a reverse camera to the pack and would like the head unit to be Apple play friendly if possible.

Anyone had some recent experience and offer brands models and advise please?

Cheers

Nathan

My D4 was a basic TDV6 with Harman Kardon audio but had the black and white small LCD screen. I don't believe these head units are easy to change and would mean you'd lose the steering wheel audio (via CANBUS) integration. If you have a larger colour screen there may be possibilities to integrate Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. See this (http://www.naviplus.com.au/single-post/2017/12/05/Apple-CarPlay-Android-Auto-Retrofit-for-Land-Rover-Range-Rovers) site but it mentions this solution works on 2013-2016 models only.

Hi

I've also got a D4 (2013 year) with the small B/W screen. I have looked into upgrading to the larger colour screen and concluded it was not viable because it was either too expensive or too risky.

The vendor/forum member cambo@oldjaguar (see one of his threads here DAB+ Digital Radio special offers – limited time only Jul-Aug 2018 (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/the-verandah/263305-dab-digital-radio-special-offers-limited-time-only-jul-aug-2018-a.html)) advised me that it was very very expensive as quite a lot needs to be changed. I also did my homework on the Naviplus option but decided that although that seemed affordable it was too risky. Do read the Naviplus webpage and make your opinion based on that and some good Google researching on what that involves.

I think you will find your stuck with the small B/W screen.

Ok ok, not the best news but we are not dead yet.. haha.

Has anyone ever purchsed the head unit from a 2011 HSE and used that? Will that work?

I've not heard of anyone successfully doing this. There were a few threads on this forum years ago, and one member working with a company to make this happen but that didn't work in the end either. I don't believe it is as simple as changing the head unit, it would also need wiring loom replacing and speakers (also subwoofer). Anything is possible of course, but unlikely to be cost effective.
