Hi folks, just about to hit the sack after what has to be one great trip.
Thanks to everybody who made the trip to Fraser island because it was definitely a weekend to remember and I hope everybody else came away with the same impression.
What an incredible place and here’s some pics to give everybody else an idea of what this island is like and when I have had a full nights sleep, I’ll post some more and I imagine by then some of the others will post some of theirs.
This first one could only be called the big let down, because we had to deflate the tyres before we could get across the beach to the barge.

This is the wreck that was just up from the camp sites

This is a typical Fraser Island sunrise.

And last but not least, some of the gang, about to leave the Island on Sunday after noon

I was thinking the same weeds....itching to hear what happened https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ Although looking at some of the first photos, I could be wrong, but it looks like Outlaw has chosen to drive his rig into the sea 8O 8O I can only assume the trailer is being emptied of water.....hope it wasn't too soggy a night for you Josh
Could be painting Josh in a bad light here so will wait to hear the full story before jumping to my conclusions
Still annoyed I couldn;t make the trip, aye, Mick

Outlaw’s trailer springs bounced out and the tyre was rubbing, so a quick on-the-spot repair was needed TWICE and It’s a bit hard ( or more to the point, not so hard ) when you need to use a jack in sand.
So a quick unload and all hands on deck to lift it vertically.
A quick unbolt, reposition the springs, quick bolt up and Bob’s your uncle, or should that be Harry’s your mechanic.
All I can say is THANK GOD FOR HARRY, AGAIN.
Nice to have your own private mechanic with you, when you go off road.

Hi Noz, the lights worked better than expected.
I was a late starter for the trip and didn’t have any camping gear ( and my wife has her way, I am never going to have any ) so the wife and I stayed in a holiday cabin just north of the camp sites.
On Friday night, after a gab fest at the camp site, we set off up the beach.
The tide had come in and it was pretty slow going but the roof lights proved to be a great bonus because they lit up any dip in the sand way before we got to them.
I’ve always liked roof lights but that has to be the best use I have ever had for them.
Cheers
PS I was trying to get some video uploaded but as usual, the mac-crap is playing up again.

Roof lights you say, I have not really thought about putting them up there but when you have an ARB bull bar you are restricted to the size you can fit. Unless you modify the bar.
Might look into that

Hi Inc, I managed to load 2 hours of video from the mini DV camera onto the one of the new hard drives you sent me, with no trouble.
Loaded the next video and couldn’t stop FCP from capturing even after the video tape had finished.
The only way to stop it is to do a force shutdown. Forced Quit of FCP doesn’t do a thing.
After a restart, the new 250G hard drive is full with only 2 .25 hours of video.
The first 2 hours only used up 18G
I had to walk away from the heap of you-know-what or I was going to put it through the wall behind it.
Cheers.

Fraser Island is great, isn't it!
Re roof lights, did I read somewhere that they're actually illegal? Or is it only that it's illegal to use them on a public road?
Anyone know?

Hi folks, I’ve used them for around 20 years and never had a problem other than being stopped at an RBT the officer doing the test actually warned me to be careful as I could get a defect notice for having them but that’s it.
On the other hand, and I have not had a chance to follow up on it but I think it was Tombraider who posted that he had heard that the law had recently changed, allowing their use in the same manor as high beam and driving lights.
Cheers
PS Inc, I think I have fixed the mac-crap problem and no, as much as I would enjoy driving the crap through the wall, I have no destroyed it.
Just removed some files.

Ok, what steps has everyone taken to clean the sand off their babies? I just went down and spent half an hour with the staun masojet (the one with the compressed air input) and blasted around. I think it worked well (first time I've used it) as there was some red simpson sand there 8O 8O
I also did the underbody wash at rainbow.
That will have to do until next weekend when I'll hose out the interior 8O 8O

thanks to all for your help and good company.
outlaw is going to get a new spring system for the camper, with rear spring attach hangers, and shout the first round at the next meeting.

Thanks Inc, I will look at that link but, touch wood, I seem to have solved the problem, for now.
What I found was that after each long capture, I save and quit FCP.
I then go into the HD and remove the Capture, Render and Audio folders.
Restart FCP and do the next capture.
So far it has not missed a beat, for a change.
I will still go and have a look at that link though as this is a daft way to do things right now.

They must be legal as Jeep have a optional roof light set up you can get for the short wheel base model I have seen 3 now around town with them mounted on the roof and they are a Permanente mounting holding 4 lights I think.

I also agree with Harry, way too short a time to see anything properly. It truly is a pretty place and we would love to spend much more time inland exploring the lakes. More time should also be spent chasing those fish, i had quite a bit of fun..... Bottom line - i'm up for the next one https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
ps. Captain Rightfoot, pm me your e-mail, i have a photo of your girl at Eli Creek, she was just delightful...

How did the trailer & Disco go in the soft sand or did you only run up the main beach :?:

Hi Glen, I followed harry and Inc back from the lake, on Sunday arvo.
We thought we might miss the last barge so we were hiking along at a great number of ks and Inc and his trailer were just in front of me.
The trailer acted like a bump-o-meter, the high the trailer bounced on a bump, the slower I approached it. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

it went just fine... had the tyres down to 20psi on the disco and the trailer and never even looked like getting bogged.
in my haste to get away on sunday i forgot to put the usual lock on the back door of the trailer and it opened itself up and took out a tail light but as Tim said, it copped a hiding on the way in and out of lake Mckenzie and performed flawlessly. impressed no end i have to say. The road in to lake Mckenzie was pretty full on for what can be found on fraser, soft, lumpy, and steep. Harry set a cracking pace on the way out and i had no trouble keeping up https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
there was some pretty soft stuff in places and toyotas without trailers were getting bogged (eurong entrance) and my kit just sailed on thru.
