Hey All,

First time camping and first time for Fraser, what an experience https://www.aulro.com/afvb/. As many of you know I bogged the beasty on Bribie due to inexperience, so this was going to be my first time back on sand 8O . When we got to Rainbow beach then out to Inskip, the heart started to beat a little faster. Moreso when the airing down of the tyres began. As we approached the point where the barge was ( I was last one down) I hit the boggy sand and gunned it. No probs at all, amazing what happens when you do the right thing. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/. Then onto the barge:

Over safely and onto the island. Rain was coming down and the thoughts of putting up the tent regularly kept popping into my mind. Now we have hit the inland road, boy is that good to loosen up the ol motions. Soon we hit the long stretches of beach, how amazing, to be driving along with the ocean crashing near by. At one stage we had to pull over, and perhaps Ill let Josh tell the story as to why. So whilst we were over, time for a photo opportunity

After driving for sometime looking for a campsite, one was chosen. It had stopped raining so was keen to get the "palace" up. After struggling for a while 8O , Harry & Chris came and lent a hand ( Thanks again https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ ) and soon the main structure was up with the black clouds getting closer and closer. Then it ****ed down and the kids and I made a mad panic to toss stuff into the tent, and wait so we could put up the annexe and other bits and pieces. The fancy people in their camper trailers were already up and having cups of coffee  , meanwhile I was ready to have a caniption. No sleep, nothing to eat since 5am ( we are now around 3.30/4) but finally after rain got the rest of the tent up.

Pic taken next day when it was sunny

This is what we woke up too:

I had a few hassles to start trying to work out how to use half the stuff I bought 8O , Harry and I tried to get my duel burner to work for half an hr till we finally had a trickle of a flame and after waiting 1/2 hr to try and boil water, Outlaw kindly lent me his gas burner so the kids and I could eat. After having not eaten in over 12hrs the pasta hardly hit the plate till it was gone  . Thankfully the next day Capt Rightfoot showed me how it worked and we were cooking with gas, hmm well premium unleaded 8O .

Saturday was the main day to explore and off we went with Outlaw and Camo, interspersed with Xbox, Grimace, bumping into Drivesafe and catching up with everyone for a BBQ fire  which was great.

The days outing-

All in all a great first time out, couldnt have gone with better people, new faces, old faces, wives, partners and children. I know my 2 younguns had a ball, plus we got to do some 4WDing over some of the tracks. So thanks to all my fellow club members for a memorable and wonderful 3 days. The D3 is a sandpit and will be getting scrubbed and Im looking forward to the next adventure,

Regards

Great report Steve.

I haven't taken mine near any sand pits yet.

My 5 year old brings home enough sand from the school sand pit in his pants to make our own beach at home https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Thanks for the comments, make sure you check out Drivesafes and Incisors threads as they have some great pics as well. There was video footage as well taken by Drivesafe of the landies in procession along the beach and pics taken by other members. Am looking forward to seeing those ones myself. The leopard boardies didnt make an appearance unfortunately, too many backpackers around if ya get my drift  ,

Well Stevo, for all your worrying, your tent came down and packed away in no time at all.

On your next trip you will be a pro. 8)

So I take it you are hooked well and truly now.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Now all i need to do is convince stacey that camping is fun[/b][/quote] It was only me and my 2 oldest children, my partner and our youngest one stayed at home. She is now wishing she came, her main hesitation initially was lack of facilities ( even though I had a portaloo and shower) and well she couldnt have come if she wanted to as car was chockablock. So guess who is looking into either roofracks or a camper trailer, so that all the family can come, ideally to one of the next GCLRO/SE QLD gathering,
