Brake parts

Hi

I have the pictured brake drums and cylinders. They are not original to vehicle.

Can anyone tell me what vehicle they are off please?

I need to get springs and shoes for them.

I am not 100% on this answer but here goes:

Are you able to measure the diameter of the drum?
Usually 10” means it comes off a SWB Land Rover.
Usually 11” means it comes from a LWB Land Rover.
I think 1 piston - means rear brake.
I think 2 pistons - means front brake.

Hopefully somebody else will come along soon and either correct me or agree with me.

i wish it was that simple ....
There are variations depending on the motor with 11 inch brakes coming in 2 1/2 and 3 inch wide. The different widths had different wheel cylinders and the number of cylinders can vary.
The best idea is to find out what was the original motor for the axles/body and then check if the original type of brakes are on the axles.

Depth of drums is 83mm from top of lip to base of the ‘inside’.

I do have alternate wheel cylinders that I can try; might just use drums as the starting point and work to shoes, then springs and then cylinders!

Was there such a thing as 3” shoes on 10”” brakes? I guess there was since I have some! But what were they off? They are double leading shoe so presume front!

Just did maths; 10” is 25cm isn’t it?

So these are 11” brake drums presumably for 3” shoes. Does that sound right?

you will need to accurately measure the drums and then match the drums to the correct backing plates and then match the wheel cylinder and shoes to the backing plates.
What sort of engine do you have ?
Has the landy had a brake booster fitted ?
What model is it ?
what sort of master cylinder is on the car ?

11" x 3" brakes were standard on the front of six cylinder Series 2a and six and eight cylinder Series 3, become standard on all lwb late Series 3. They would be an easy upgrade to the front brakes of any Series Landrover. They have two wheel cylinders and are two leading shoe.

I fitted the 11 inch drums and 3inch shoes to my 64 SWB front and rear , an easy job .I bought the drum , backing plate and shoes second hand and new hoses and it all pretty much bolted straight on .Check the dia of drums as they are getting a bit old now so you don't need to be paying for worn out drums ,new ones are readily available about $100 each .I think I used same master cylinder no booster and they worked great . I have a 71 LWB with the 10 inch brakes and you have to start planning your stops long before you use the pedal especially if it is loaded .
