Nice idea Bob. Finally got a bike shed at my kids primary school, They are running a Bike Education course for the hundreds of new healthier kids about to be riding to school rather than the mums and dads all trying to park at the front gate to pick up and drop off the kids. Those who hate bike riders might like the fact that 600 less cars blocking the roads while picking up or dropping off Johnny or Kate at the school gate twice a day will make a lot their own drives much quicker as long as the Car drivers are considerate and respectful do not kill the kids and stop them riding to school. [bigsmile1]
I have been often running the 2 bike 3km to and from school often as in the past as the school was anti bike. They did not like me locking the kids bikes to the school fence as "other kids would want to ride to school"[bigrolf]
Funnily enough due to the traffic school drop off and pick up congestion. I can run to or from the kids school faster than my neighbors who drive. I chuckle as I wave to them every day. In Japan recently, The millions of people riding there was amazing. I think "Dooring" is mostly a inner city issue and all Landrover drivers check before opening their doors of course.

Melbourne Marathon this Sunday- sorry to all drivers diverted while 34,000 fellow running/walking nuts go for a stroll. 4 weeks later I will keep the nice Portland drivers and runners company. Sorry Mick Marsh.Happily for Mick the roads aren't closed just "be nice" signs for that one. Lillydale a few weeks later.
Get your superstar to come for a Half ?
I have a bike but seldom have time to get on it due to my bad habits Bob [biggrin]
Back on Topic. Love to try a ride around the bay this one. I say that every year and always seem to be busy. Category: | Herald Sun (https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/around-the-bay-2018-thousands-to-cycle-in-the-charity-event/news-story/26bcbd8efbde3196916eb3640401b35f)

Sorry Mick Marsh.
Why apologise to me? I won't be anywhere near there.
That reminds me. I must order a bike rack plate for the new number plate. Now that it is heading for summer, when it stops raining I think I'll cycle to the cafes after work in the evenings for a light snack.

What! The Melbourne Marathon is in Portland?
Only flat earthers think Western Vic is a small place. Most realise you can't see past the horizon.

Don't see much lycra around here. Saw some leather Saturday a little before lunch.
You can ride. I'll meet you there. I don't have that much time to spare. What sort of distance can you ride in a 24 hour period?

Melb M this week. Portland Marathon for Western Districts disruption four weeks Mick. Heaps of lycra on the roads near Port Fairy- Koroit Saturday morning (I was running) Most of them get into coffee shops before9am [biggrin] Want to know where the good coffee is ask a bike rider not a runner.
Having a view WA is a rather big place I have always thought Vic is really rather petite.
Grampians, Mount Cole, Ararat surrounding hills and some big lumps towards Geelong clearly viable from the top of Mount Cole. Line of sight to horizon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizon)from sea level is about 5000 metres. I am not a flat earther promise

I’m near Garvoc which is about 45km or so from Warrnambool, so a couple of hours drive away from Portland. [emoji16]

This Dutch idea is not much good if one is a fat bastard, 'cos it's difficult to reach & use the door handle with the left hand on a D1 as it is so far forward. (So a mate tells me, mind) [bigsmile1]

Gent who owns a shop near me is 60+ year old. He was 150kg. He walked a bit jogged a little, walked a bit more, jogged a little bit more-- Inside 6 months he jogged/walked his first marathon. He is now about 70kgs. Your mate could turn his head to see bike riders if he tried that slow trick.

I (OOPS [tonguewink].) already do that+ the D1 also has large mirrors, but have had the occasion when just as you want to open the door some bugger shoots out to the side from up close behind. Not always visible until they do that.:bat:
