Are you going to use it as a tourer, and if so, how do you reckon you'll go with the range?
Don.

No it was never intended as a tourer . I built it to evaluate the pros & cons of EV's I never expected to get more than 100km range per charge.
However 3 x Electric Busses (full size coaches) have just come up for sale , they typically do 450-500 km per charge and one broke over 1000km per charge. The motor & batteries from one of these in my Iveco would do well over 1000km . the tech is there right now & is only going to get better.
The Bollinger B1 as it stands now will do me just fine as a tourer. by the time there are consumer ready will be much better too.

I reckon this has to be my next car. The Defender will do until then!

Kind of what im thinking also. BUT 200mile range on the big battery before a long recharge. I was thinking a solar roof would help but the press rep says its not worth it for the trickle of power it would provide. So i cant see how it would work for me as a weekend away in the high country. Farmers though i can see this working as they can plug in over night. Am i missing something?

I think I am missing something.
I cant see this vehicle passing crash tests let alone pedestrian and passenger protection.
It may get through some of the USA tests but wont make it here from what I can see.
They've got 2 years to get it all ok'd but they're talking production availability at that time.
Dont part with any money folks.

Carry a fuel generator for off grid recharge maybe? I have an electrically assisted bicycle and the motor on it’s bombproof with lots of torque. They’re now building electric truck prime movers with surprising range. I can see this becoming a reality in the not so distant future. Lots of road transport in Oz. At some point soon we’ll see fast charging stations for trucks going in.

All correct. But this is the future and it will happen!

I was thinking that there was room for a range extender in the frunk.

Interestingly I was looking at one (unimog) yesterday for $19K (with a smoky engine) with the view to convert it to full electric

Crumple zones, airbags, passive safety all seem to be somewhat lacking? It looks like a niche collectors model to me. Nice concept but I wouldn’t be parting with any cash.

I can't see why crash testing will be an issue, it's a modern CAD and FEA designed vehicle.
From the little I understand of EU pedestrian safety regs it wouldn't pass, but I can't see why it wouldn't comply with Oz ADR's?

Bollinger have no intention of it meeting EU standards , which are Bull**** anyway.
The Iveco 4x4 E5 & E6. Meet EU certification , Hit a pedestrian with one of those and you will go straight under & get minced in the kangaroo slicer. They are certified as EU4 in AU on the back of EU 5 /6 certification but no way on this planet do the brakes even come close to meeting ADR’s. no way known. They are outright dangerous.
I don’t gives a flying **** about ****ing ESC Airbags or ****ing pedestrian impact injuries.
The Defender does not meet NA standards but is fine for AU , If the Bollinger meets USA regs I’ll be more than happy with it . It’s not actually designed for ****ing coffe shop crawling. For ****s sake , what a bunch of ****ing dickheads.

So i questioned the safety ratings on the Bollinger facebook page and got this reply....
"100% fully compliant and road-legal throughout the US and many markets around the world."
Seeing as you can register some pretty crazy things over there and that the other countries are not mentioned then i think this comment is worthless.

Would regs be leaner for an EV ?

Well theres no emission regs to deal with, ......unless you have a hybrid.
But you can carry a dirty old generator in the back of an EV to charge it , .... if the generator is part of the car it needs to be EU6 .
