Bobby went through 16 foster families and 38 homes. Then her teachers became Mum and Dad - ABC Life (https://www.abc.net.au/life/the-teachers-who-saved-my-life/10360622)

That's a great story. Nice to see a positive one.
I married a teacher, whose family is a long line of teachers (mum and dad, uncles and aunties, grandparents, etc). Teachers are so undervalued by general society. I wouldn't be a teacher for quids, couldn't do it. Massive respect for them.
Thanks for sharing that :)

I am a teacher. I understand why so many teachers quit, especially within the first 5 years.

I have to say I understand it (now), too. Well done for sticking it out :)

Neither has my missus, but she will. If she can put up with me it should be a cakewalk [emoji14]
You'll be right. Look at the long game and big picture and celebrate the little wins you get. Take time to smell the roses. Hard road at times but significant rewards, if you are open to really seeing them.

"I like teachers". Mmmm and there woz me thinking this was a thread about Teachers scotch...... very nice blend. On the subject of the "teachers" I don't know many but feel sorry for those that have to attempt to teach one of my young rellies.
Not his fault or the fault of many other problem kids though as the example set by his scumbag father has ruined him. Fingers crossed the male teacher he has now will be able to help him
Actually he's the first male the lad has had as it seems most don't bother now for various reasons. Not a job I ever wanted to do so good luck to them all.

I got the cane many times at secondary school especially from a maths teacher. Nice one day and would take us for cricket instead of maths (!!!) but a savage the next.
Of course he wouldn't be allowed to teach these days as he was obviously deranged. He caned two of us one morning and got a belting from my mates Dad for doing it. Not sure of the outcome there as I went to boarding school not long after.
Now that was fun fun fun. :)

A good mate from primary school as a tenager got into bad company and was getting into a bit of trouble. He got sent to a catholic boys boarding school. He was always a lippy kid and as he told me, first day he cheeked the teaching brother in class. He said he then found out why the brothers wore those heavy leather belts around their robes. After a severe flogging he said he wasn't game to open his mouth in class. This would have been 1956.

A bit antiquated, get with the times . Waterboarding each and everyone before they play up might make them think twice.

Me being a smartarse 9 year old & showing off with my old man's borrowed shiny cigarette case with a couple of fags (pre-spliff days) in it, got me 10 of the worst on the back of the legs (while he held my arm so I couldn't "escape," ) from the Principal (a big fat pig of a bloke that always carried a leather shaving strop in his pant's band)
I should have predicted the future as later on the kid that grassed me up was a Regimental Cop in the CMF.[bigsad]
His old man was a Sgt of Police here in SA & the kid (Arthur) also became a member of said Police Force or Service as they are want to be called these days.
The odds were certainly stacked against me that day.[biggrin]
I mean, it was hardly a flogging offence.

As they say, in what other job do you put 30 or more bored kids who don't want to be there in a room all day and expect a single person to not only control them, but to help them sort out their myriad of problems without killing themselves and actually inspire them to better their lives?
To quote the slogan, 'If you can read this, thank a teacher'.
BTW I'm not a teacher.

Thats a funny old saying, but actually its often wrong. For example, I've just spent a morning with 6 employers from major companies (you would know the names) doing job interviews for job ads only mildly altered from real ads. One of those employers in real life is currently interviewing for 26 apprentices. Another of the employers is a former student of our school.
The students are mostly former refugees whose first language is not English, plus some with special needs. They did great and were praised by the employers. This course is a Certificate III which can only be taught by people with very specific qualifications. The course goes through an industry feedback process as part of approval. We have quite a few teachers who had successful industry careers and only came to teaching mid-career because they wanted to give something back. They include a lawyer, a builder and an industrial designer. So, its a funny saying, but its often wrong.

Sorry, I know you were just making a joke, so I didn't mean to be too serious.
There is a trend for people to do a mid-life career change and go into teaching.
I remembered we also have a former engineer, accountant, media executive, IT business owner, robotics smartypants, actor, dancer, several musicians and a national hockey player. Probably more too.

I like nurses.....not the ones some of you are fantasising about
.....but the real ones.
They should be paid more than politicians.
