Anyone know how to check the version of data/maps in the Sat Nav? Pretty sure mine needs an update but I don't want to shell out on updates if the latest is already in there. Seems to be missing lots of roads that have been around twenty years or more, including my home street. If this is as good as it gets it's near useless...

$295 for V20 update is the latest available which is quite a few years out of date and at $295 would you spend it anyway? There's a secret menu for which I would have to do some digging to find out how to access it.

Thanks Graeme. If you think you can find it without too much effort I'd be very appreciative. If it's a hassle, please don't bother.
I'd bother only because mine seems to have the WA updates but nothing East Coast. Very outdated. Next to useless.
I note that there's some mobs offering free Sat Nav upgrades for just about anything. Just give them the VIN and download the file, burn to disc/card/USB as applicable. Sounds too good to be true ?!

Volvo uses the same Denso navigation system (which is also used in the Jag XF, XK, several Aston Martins, the Freelander 2) and Volvo paid TomTom for newer maps. Look for a map disc to suit the XC60 2008-2011, it's the same system, $195 for V23 from navshop

So... just verifying that you are absolutely certain that this will work in a LS-series L320? This one - Volvo XC60 (2008 - 2011) - TomTom Australia 23 GPS Map Update – navshop (https://navshop.com.au/collections/volvo/products/volvo-xc60-2008-2011-australia)

Ooooooh. $450 isn't overly cheap. It'd want to be pretty darn comprehensive for that sort of coin. Not sure I want to stump up that much. Anyone got a pre-loved one I could buy off you that's maybe a year or two old?

OK, so the Nav 'secret menu' can be accessed by being in the basic Nav home screen and touching and holding the exact centre top of the touch-screen for 7 seconds (invisible button) and then entering code 753 when prompted, then OK.
If I read my info correctly, mine has never been updated and it is still running 2007 level. I assume that's American date format, so 21st May 2007 in English. But the date on the other screen might be 31st October 2007 (reverse notation)? I suspect that one is the Sat Nav operating software level, and the other is the mapping data level. Either way, they are well and truly outdated.

The vehicle 'secret menu' can also be accessed this way:- From the home screen touch and hold centre top of the screen for 7 seconds and then press and hold the Nav hard button (left one) for 3 seconds and then enter the same 753 code when prompted. That gives you a wealth of knowledge about the vehicle.

Updated mine in a Discovery 4 last month.
Bought the disk direct from Landrover via this link:-
Land Rover Australia - In-car GPS Upgrades for Australia and New Zealand - powered by TomTom® maps (https://landrover.navshop.com.au/)
$195 plus postage, ordered on a Monday, arrive the next day.
Disc is generic but they e-mail you the Key-lock code based on your VIN number when you submit your order.
Took about 50 minutes to update so did it en route to a weekend away when I knew we'd be in the car for a couple of hours of driving.
It's the latest one available, but don't quote me on this, I think it's up to 2015 from memory? I figured it was with $200 as my factory nav was missing the Peninsula Link road.

v20 is 2014. If it works, the latest Volvo one referenced above is the same price and 2017. If it works. Surprising that the official LR oferring is outdated v20. There is a v24 available, but it's $450... Nope.

You could just take it to a Land Rover dealer I suppose, but I don't know what they would charge for an update.

yes, the official one for LR is v20
v24 can be hacked to make it work on LR, which is what they have done.

Yes, I have one of the "Volvo" V23 in my own car, and know many others who have used Volvo discs in Land Rovers.

You could always just pop the disc out of the drive and look at the label... FYI the data year is always one year behind the marketing...
But I think you have 2010 data, which would be a "2011" disc, that would be V17?
Updated mine in a Discovery 4 last month.
The navigation system in the 2012-onward Discovery 4 that requires a license code is not the same as the one we're talking about here..

OK, great info. Thanks. Volvo V23 it is then. For ~$200 I'll risk it as it'd have to be a lot better than whatever's in there and is only a year behind the bleeding-edge. My car keeps telling me I'm off-road for a good chunk of my daily commute, but sadly that's not true :( I'm hoping they put more effort into non-metro areas in the later updates...
Update now ordered :)
Completely correct on the disc. I made that way too hard. Forgot that the Nav data is all on a disc and not held in memory like more modern systems. Didn't engage brain first. I think of it as a contemporary car as it generally matches current offerings for most things. I forget the tech is 15 years old in it.
Thanks again for all who contributed.

Well I received the v23 'Volvo' disc last night. Tried it this morning and got this...

Tried a few times. Same result. Bunged the old disc (v14) back in and it's happy again. Am I missing something? You just swap discs with the ignition on and/or engine running, right?

I updated mine -a 2012 SDV6 RRS but with LR disc a few years ago. It asked for code before it would load. My mate also with a 2012 RRS tried same disc - it wouldn’t work it was set to my VIN. Not much help sorry [emoji52]

Well obviously they can't but my point was everyone here is moaning about paying $250 to $400 for a sat nav update on a $100,000 odd vehicle when you get the same for $0 on a $22,000 Hyundai (Which also has a 5 year unlimited KM Warranty)
While I do love the Green Oval, they are the greediest sods going IMO with stuff like this - they just keep gouging for as long as they can...

Cool, that's the way it should be in this day and age IMO. Sat Nav isn't a high end feature like it use to be 15 years ago - it's a standard feature on pretty much everything these days.

When you put in the new disc you should get a message on the screen about a software update being required, you have to run that update, it loads a new firmware to the nav DVD drive.

Unfortunately not. Insert disc and... Nothing happens. No prompts. No error messages (*might say "no map data" or similar). Just a Nav screen devoid of maps.
Note also my L320 is pre-update (MY08).

Maybe it needs to be updated manually. There should be a way to update the firmware via the hidden menu.
Don't try this yet though, let me check with one of the guys who is using the Volvo disc first.
