Good day All,
Did a trip around Aus and after the trip my locks were newer the same. I've been struggling with the rear lock (door 5) for months. It does not want to push the little pin up to unlock the door. Sometimes it works some times I struggle for a couple of minutes.
Now the drivers doors lock does not push up the 'pull' pin up at all. So I need to de-activate the alarm and then use my key to and turn so that the pin pops up.
The left passenger lock also had trouble that is now fixed, the pin popped out but nothing happened when you pulled the door handle.
Any way I've had the back door open and cleaned out all the dust, took the locks out and cleaned them to. Still same problem.
How can I fix the lock problems in the disco??
Thanks and Happy 4wdriving

sounds like a case of lube and adjust......
lube the linkages and makes sure they are adjusted correctly....
the door lock solenoids do not have enough power to lock or unlock
if they are not set up in the right position.....they need to rest in the centre
of their travel distance....

I had a problem with my rear lock in Coober Pedy after a trip from the Flinders up to Oodnadatta and back down - I found it would not open.
For a day or two before hand it would only unlock from the control on the dash.
Full of dust...
I good belt from the outside on the plastic handle managed to shake the dust free and get it open.. I then DROWNED it in CRC... basically flushed it through... No drama after that until a couple of months later - had similar symptoms - again gave it a big flush through and all is good again.
Glad we fixed it at Coober Pedy..... for a while there it looked like I was climbing over tha back seat every time I wanted a beer 8O 8O 8O

Had trouble all over the place with Defender door thingys, keyed, not remote, sprayed the bejabbers out of the lot of them with Inox or the dreaded wd40, shhh, don't tell. It may attract more dust, but made the locks work again, had a bugger of time getting the spray off the rest of the truck, but there you go. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Good day guys,
The centre unlock button does not unlock the back door, you can hear it go but nothing happens, will check out the driver door later today.
The big question is, do I buy a new lock and linkages for the back door. I've had it open, even took the lock right out, cleande it and lubbed it. still same problem, new lock is $230 so if I can fix it otherwise it would be great.
Thanks for all your help so far

WD40 sprayed into the lock and flick the lock, by that i mean pull it then let it go so it returns sharply, this has happend to ours it is jammed inside and flicking the lock several times even banging it with your hand should loosen it up you can lock and unlock the car several times as well, i also took the panel off and sprayed liberally inside too.
It worked for us, with luck it will work for you.

I assumed, when I came across similar on the Defender, that it was a cumulative effect. A little bit of dust in the keyhole, and in each joint along the way to the unlocking mechanism adds up to problems opening the door. I found that I had to clean out not just the keyhole, but also every joint along the way, there are so many joins, and comparatively so much distance to travel. I guess that grit in the actuator motor gears would also contribute.

At lease you could climb over the seat, mine stuck at Kunnunurra 12 months ago. I had a cargo barrier fitted then  . It eventually unlocked, just as well as that day we left for the Gibb River road.
It stuck again late last year (no cargo barrier this time) when I slammed the door shut on a full load of carboard for the dump https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ . This time I had to unload each piece one at a time through the passenger rear door until I was able to open it via the inside handle ... not happy Jan!

with the disco....i think if you remove the badge off the door handle
you can spray the workings with lube spray through the hole behind the badge.....

I have had and fixed the same problem.
My advice is don't not put WD40 or any other similar lubricant near them as it will only make more dust stick and they will get worse.
the solution i used was to remove the locking mechanism, clean in petrol to remove all dust and old grease, then a very light greasing with graphite grease.
tThis keeps eveything lubed without attracting more crap.
1 year after treatment and plenty of dusty roads later all the locks work a treat.

Hi Stu
You say graphite grease. Is it actually graphite powder in a puffer bottle???
I always used the puffer bottle on our falcoon wagons tailgate, the crc/wd40 products would make the problem worse(gravel road dust)

I have this exact same problem. I can here the solenoid activate, but does not unlock the door. Nor does the unlock button on the dash work. The door can be unlocked by using the handle on the inside, but this is a pain in the butt. This seems to be a common problem.
$230 for a new lock... I hope there is a easy fix for this.

Hi All
We had the same problem last month lots of dirt roads and dust took 2 hours to free the rear door with lots of help from friends we also had a cargo barrier in place I would suggest that you check that you have the dust seals mounted to the rear door striker as all the other Discos had them on ours did not they have never been there.I will try to get the part number and post it they help a lot.
Regards
Doug
