The above coolant was the subject of some threads dating back a number of years. I was wondering if the forum members, that used it, were happy? In my case it is a tdi 300 engine. The product advertising claims it is for use in any engine. So how did it go in the alloy? How did it treat the seals?

My Defender gets driven irregularly, so changing the stuff I currently use, every two years is annoying.

Phoned a local truck company that has the PG Platinum in stock. Thought it had a name change and I am wondering if I would be getting old stock that has been sitting on the shelf for sometime.

Would appreciate any comments.

I would just use any good glycol based coolant like nulon or penrite.

Definitely would not use tecinfinity. We use it at work and have never had so many leaks. Had heaps of radiator and after cooler failures also.

Used PGPlatinum in the Tdi and aTD42T Patrol for years without any known issue.

Used up my surplus of both in the TD5 and it's leaking in the same spots as the OAT did, so I don't think I can blame the coolant.

I have been using PG Platinum in my TD5 for about 4 to 5 years with no issues.

It seems that PG Platinum is using Propylene Glycol rather than Ethylene Glycol to provide the anti-freeze/anti-boil characteristics. Ethylene Glycol is poisonous and banned in some countries.
It's an OAT coolant (anti-corrosion method) and these usually have a long service life. Early OAT formulations were a problem but this was resolved some years back. They do mention in the data sheet performing regular checks to ensure that the coolant is performing correctly (OK for a fleet operator to invest in the testing equipment).

I was running IAT (old fashioned anti-corrosion technology) then a Hybrid Organic Additive Technology (HOAT) coolant in my 300Tdi with no problems and more recently changed to a Hybrid Additive Technology (HAT) coolant which is probably the same anti-corrosion additive type as HOAT anyway, who knows...... With a lot of coolants it's difficult to find what anti-corrosion method they use without contacting the manufacturer.

The important things are :-
Fully flush the old coolant from the system, anti-corrosion additives may be compromised if mixed.
Mix it in the correct ratio, otherwise the corrosion resistance is compromised.
Use rainwater if possible although tapwater from some parts of the country is OK.

This is what I'm currently using in the 300Tdi down to the Series I. Often 'on special' at SuperCheap etc. & lasts 7 years.
