I'm now running GME VHF and UHF radio's. I like these radio's due to the small size that they are. It has enabled me to mount both of them easily into the roof console, and still leave room for my CD stacker and a HF radio.

ICOM 400Pro. A bit bigger than GME and not much more in cost. Very robust and are commerial/consumer versions of their mil spec radios.

Very clear reception from these radios.

Both my Landrovers have Uniden UH-077s, Tractor and spare are UH-001, base station is Electrophone TX4701, handheld Uniden UH-005. All except one of the UH-077s and the handheld were bought second hand, and all have been reliable. No discernible difference in performance between any of them.
The only problems have been a battery for the handheld, a microphone for one UH-077 and the displays on both UH-001s.

Uniden UH-088 front speaker job, in its 3rd (about 6+ yrs now) car now still good performance.
If I was buying one for the current location I would get a bottom speaker unit as the front speaker isnt best up so high, but an in dash install as it was in the first and 2nd car it was ideal.

I just use the base model GME. It's cheap, reliable, and fits nicely in front of the defender cubby box. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Icom IC400pro. Its able to be reprogrammed by the owner to up to 25 watts plus 128 (from memory)channels. Mine does not have standard cb programming. It works very well. Centre roof antenna. Uniden 2 watt handheld for when I have to walk up hills to help someone who is stuck.

Sorry.....

Uniden sundowner concrete block but it is the aerial and its location that count more so IMHO.

Can I ask what antennas and mounting locations are used?

Omaroo, I know camera lenses can distort, but it appears that your gear lever can be adjusted so that it sits closer to the driver so it isn't such a hell of a reach.
I've noticed quite a few Defender's over the years with the gear lever half a mile away from the driver. It's so much nicer to drive when it falls easily to hand.
The adjustment procedure is in the manual.

Have General Electric SSB AM CB in Stage 1, and GME TX3400 in wardrobe awaiting fitment to ordered TD5 Defender. Funny, the reception in wardrobe is not that good. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

the top LHS of the gear knob is 15mm to the right of the centre of the radio ( in 1st.)

Hmm, not too clear, was I. How about, if you find the centreline of the radio, the gear knob is on the drivers side of centre https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Used some form or TAIT radio today https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
It was working on ch16 then it decided to do something wierd.
Anyway, it wouldnt recieve the other cars anymore, so we scanned the channels picked them up on ch17 clearly (whilst everyone else was on 16 :? ). Yet when we responed we where breaking up. Seemed as if it was operating at a frequency between channels https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I thought this was strange/funny.
Other than that, it was a cool radio.

Got an ICOM 400 pro. Just got it 2 weeks ago so still working out how all the bits work. I got the 65 extra police channels, some of the information that comes across from them is pretty weird. I only get the just out of Brisbane coppers as the in Bris ones dont use UHF radios anymore. Some crazy people in this world.

I've got a uniden UH 12, it is a pretty basic model.

Mainly because it was the cheapest around. As yet I have not had any problems with it.

Has anyone got any issues with this basic radio??
Good, bad or whatever. I would like some feedback

Iv'e got a GME TX3400 in the Landy and a TX4200 in the Suby.

We bought some 5w handheld Unidens for the cadets.

They're all good radios, never had a problem.

With the car radios, on a good day when in the higher part of town I've picked up the repeater in Ravensthorpe (160km away as the crow flies)!

I forgot to mention.

I also use a couple of cheap Uniden hand-helds which have been bloody great when needed.

Base radio is an old Pearce Simpson. Squelch has pretty much gone now, but it still works fine!

i've got a GME TX4400 mounted in the roof console. it's a bit bigger than the 3400 but pretty small when you compare it to the super cheetah AM CB i used to have. i got this one mainly for the extra 20 listen only channels which the guys that i bought it from, kindly programmed all of the police channels into. not only makes for great entertainment, but keeps you informed of trouble spots to stay away from.
has a few handy features above the 3400 also.
i wasn't worried about the remote head stuff as i would then have to find 2 mounting spots instead of just 1.

I have Unidens. Have had 3 with no problems at all. Have had the one I have got now for about 10 years. Only recently the hand piece died and had to be replaced. Great under rated units. If I was to buy again I would get a remote head unit either Uniden or GME.

I have a Uniden GPS105 UHF/GPS combo, radio is excellent, GPS is your basic compass style unit, with trip/distance average calculator/speed indicater and redlight/speed camera/blackspot detectors, also has waypoint marking ability.

Overall it's a very good unit, only bad points is you can't turn off the camera warnings only the sound, and it's hard sometimes to read the small writing on the screen.

I have a Uniden UH-100 (Like an 88 but with a couple of more useless features) and an old Electrophone TX-550 AM with PA system, useful for verbally abusing people a few blocks away without winding your windows down.

I also have 2 Uniden Pro 510XL AM Radios that im not using.

I've got the GME Tx4400 in my ute and Tx3200s in the work vehicles. The 4400 has been fine but I have had to remove and refit all the 3200 speakers with a bit of vibration reducing silastic. Without this the 3200 speakers vibrates when the volume is turned up to an acceptable level.

I am thinking of getting the Icom IC400pro next time though. Just for something different.

I got the 4400 originally because I like big screens and lots of features. Although I rarely used any of the features. Although I do use the adjustable squelch a lot.

I've also got 3 cheapy Uniden handhelds for walking ahead of vehicles, recovery, snowboarding etc
