My plastic one has seen better days so I have been cruising the internet for a replacement. Really like this type of one out of New York. Has anyone bought one of these and how was the shipping through USPS? Does any Australian manufacturer make a similar type of one?

Have you been to see what British Offroad has?

I just had a look, but their website has no shop. It's also very difficult to navigate - eg: the new parts link takes you to an accessory brand list?? ...If you have any affilation with them Dervish, please let them know it's difficult to find what you're looking for on their website.

I like the look of that.
My only question is, do mesh grilles let in more bugs onto the radiator than grilles with slats, which may deflect bugs?

I think the mesh grills would allow less bugs through, but I’d also cable tie some black insect mesh behind my grill.
There are links to three types above, 2 mesh and one a copy of the Adventure grill. I think I prefer the second Nakatenga version, but the Paddocks one is only $100.

I'm very tempted to get one of these - 4x4 Outdoor Tuning :: Radiator grille aluminium, black or silver, for Defender (http://www.4x4outdoortuning.com.au/land-rover-defender/land-rover-defender-exterior/radiator-grille-aluminium-black-or-silver-for-defender.html) - which a guy who lives near me has on his Puma. Not a bad price, and local. Just not sure it would fit a 300Tdi.

I phoned British Off-road today. I said exactly the same thing to them and they are in the process of upgrading their website. They had a Wildbear grille advertised but they no longer stock it. They did advise that someone is manufacturing a metal grille for them that should be available before Christmas.

That’s a good point you make Disco Mick. I have just spent sometime blowing the aircon condenser out with compressed air and then I picked bits of bugs, grass seeds, rock particles and several feathers (emu) out of it.
I wondered about cooling, as it could well be that the unit out of New York could provide a greater air flow than the standard plastic grille. And then you raise the bug question. The plastic grille bars may deflect the bugs better.

Yes, they are much better prices but the one out of New York looks a cut above.
However, the nakatanenga one is my pick of the three you listed. I’ll wait and see what British Off-road come up with.

Some of the aftermarket grills out there for Defenders are just plain nuts.
i wasnt about to pay $600 plus for a grill.
I went with one of these

I could tell them but I'm sure they know. They're a bit old fashioned and I respect that, in fact I think it's great. If you need something just give them a call or drop in.

Whilst discussing grills, has anyone seen where you can get the grill extension panel (air con panel)?

Interesting thread .. I was just contemplating this weekend how much I don't like the stock grille on the puma. Started planning on making something that was more "retro"

Thanks for the offer, but I might endure it a bit longer if it's all the same by you. They really shouldn't be that hard to find - 110 Countys had them in fibreglass like mine, late TD5 110 CSWs and Pumas have them in some kind of plastic (but they're probably better than the fibreglass ones if I'm honest).

Yeah someone in the US makes a fibreglass one, might grab one from them.
