Been getting packed to go away tomorrow - have to leave the house looking reasonable as well, since I have guests arriving the day after i get back after Easter. Yass tomorrow, then Albury Thursday and Echuca on Friday, back to Yass on Tuesday, then home on Wednesday.

Last straw tonight - drove over to my sister's (nearest neighbour 4km away) to pick up some stuff to take with me. Ran out of petrol about 3/4km from home at 8pm. Had to walk home then walk back with a jerrican. I had thought the other tank was full but it was empty. Hazards of having a switchable gauge instead of two gauges.

Note to all. I was standing on the roof rack of the County lowering the wheels I have advertised to the ground with some tie down straps looped through the wheel. I had inadvertently looped the strap around my neck. When the wheel was near the ground I let the straps go. 8O 8O

It just about ripped my neck off. I had a headache for the rest of the day.

(Oh, Zook, those drawers we bought - don't try to lift them into the back of the Defender by yourself. I did and tore a rotator cuff muscle - that was 4 months ago and it is still painful.)

This arvo I went to a farewell party for some friends who are moving to the USA for work.

Tonight I fitted the new stereo into the County - now with front and rear speakers (boom boxes above the rear doors). The CD stacker goes in tomorrow then the dash can be refitted.

I have been driving and socialising (see 3.5 V8 fuel economy). I am now in Darwin and will be for a week or so. I can see some fishing and mud driving in my immediate future. Ah holidays...

I got a wave this morning, Defender 130 southbound around Pine Creek. I thought people up here were supposed to be friendly. The closer I got to Darwin, the lower the percentage of returned waves. I guess I am used to Alice Springs where you either know everyone, or people are so happy to see other traffic that they will wave to anyone!
