I'm trying to sort something out for Edd (George130) and I don't want him getting out of bed.

Would someone tell me the metric tyre size(s) for the Defender 110 and 130?

My County has 7.50R16 but that is no longer listed on Goodyear's site so I can't work out the theoretical diameter, circumference, etc. I want to plug various tyre sizes into a tyre size comparison table.

I think the standfard is either 235/75/16 or 225/75/16
but 7.50 R16 is correct. standard light truck tyres.
I have two set of rims ron the ones on the rig right now are 7.5 inch
The other set are 5.5 inch
standard for the 130 are 6.5

I'm off to bed again now. Fredom time is up and the day. I will get a chance tomorrow I hope. Wife is letting me have short bursts on the computer as long as I take my drugs and sty in bed all the rest of the time.

Door plate says 7.5R16s, 235/85R16s as standard alternate.

Edd, the first tyre is the reference size.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedometer Odometer Difference
235/85-16 200mm 403mm 806mm 2532mm 395/km 100km/h 15000km N/A
255/85-16 217mm 420mm 840mm 2639mm 379/km 96km/h 14393km 4.2%
225/75-16 169mm 372mm 744mm 2337mm 428/km 108km/h 16250km -7.7%
205/80-16 164mm 367mm 734mm 2307mm 433/km 110km/h 16460km -8.9%

can confirm this as I'm on my second set of 255/85's.

So if I make the biggest tyre the reference, the table becomes:

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedometer Odometer Difference
255/85-406 217mm 420mm 840mm 2639mm 379/km 100km/h 15000km N/A
235/85-406 200mm 403mm 806mm 2532mm 395/km 104km/h 15633km -4.0%
225/75-406 169mm 372mm 744mm 2337mm 428/km 113km/h 16936km -11.4%
205/80-406 164mm 367mm 734mm 2307mm 433/km 114km/h 17155km -12.6%

The problem with tables and tyre sizes is that the 'stated' size is normally incorrect introducing error (nevermind the fact that the speedometre may not be accurate to start with by up to 10%)
Different manufaturers have size variance in a specified size.
Sometimes there are massive differences amoungst manufacturers (such as 900x16 tyres which differ by up to 60mm between manufacturers)

Anyway - works for some, but far different for others.

Dave.

The tyres I'm rimming os I bought are 285/75 R16. If anything I am going slower than the speedo claims or everyone speeds. The times I went to ace's I had to speed to keep up with everyone. I find the same when I follow friends as well.

Adding yout tyres we get:

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedometer Odometer Difference
255/85-406 217mm 420mm 840mm 2639mm 379/km 100km/h 15000km N/A
235/85-406 200mm 403mm 806mm 2532mm 395/km 104km/h 15633km -4.0%
225/75-406 169mm 372mm 744mm 2337mm 428/km 113km/h 16936km -11.4%
205/80-406 164mm 367mm 734mm 2307mm 433/km 114km/h 17155km -12.6%
285/75-406 214mm 417mm 834mm 2620mm 382/km 101km/h 15108km -0.7%

Which is less than 1% different from the 255/85R18

http://www.aulro.com/albums/album333/tyrechart.jpg

7.50x16 = 190.5mmx190.5mmx16inches

235/85R16 = 199.75mm tall x 235mm wide x 16

If there were a 255/75R16 it would be 191.25mm x 255mm x 16

But, from the small amount of looking I did there isn't anything exactly the same size as a 7.5x16. I'd guess considering the variations in actual tyre size compared to stated tyre size that anything close to 190mm tall will do trick.

Tyre charts for Defender.

May not be quite as accurate as we would like, it says that 205R16 is standard for a 90.

205/?

As long as they know what they're doing. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

205R16 was std fitment on poverty pack D1

Mine came with these pizza cutters....

And ended up with 315-75-16s.....

Man, that was fun............

255-85-16 is a great tyre on a Defender.

Thanks for the info.
I bought a set of 22575/R16 second hand tyres that ron picked up for me so wanted to make certain they are ok for the Fender.

tombraider

Nope! They're too small...

Rolling diameter is 29.28" (mew) which is Discovery diameter.

If you fit them your speedo will read well over your actual road speed and you'll be revving the heck out of the engine due to defender gearing being different (suited to 32" tyres).

I'd strongly advise not using them.

Not even with the disco auto and high range fitted?

tombraider

In that case if you have 1.2:1 hi gears it will be fine.

Going to look very under-tyred though!!!!!

And ground clearance isnt going to be as good :?

But if you've geared it like a disco then 29" tyres will be fine.

Cool. I have a 2 inch lift and only plan to use these tyres for my daily commute. That means the only bumps will be public servants in Canberra. Planning on the multiple sets of tyres game.
