Nasty smash - amazing she survived, that could have ended very differently. I bet the commentators in the box the car hit got a surprise...

Very lucky. Seemed she was airborne a long way from the corner!

The crash was aired this morning on TV and the female talking head on the TV chat show immediate reaction was three fold :-
- should she have been driving at 17
- is that even legal
- seems too young to be driving
Sigh..............

Yeah looked like there was no attempt to brake at all. Maybe brake failure? Certainly flew a long way. Lucky to be alive i think. Ppl on the ground lucky too. Only minor injuries reported.

Yeah, I don't think the brakes work so well when the cars 6' in the air. [biggrin]

No air brakes on the rear wing?

From what I can make out, she was heading in reverse when she came into shot so, zero chance of brakes working under those conditions. I think the slight rise of the candy cane got her airbourne with the other car helping her the rest of the way up. If she hadn't got that initial lift I think both cars would have been a crumpled mess at the base of the wall in front where she came to rest. Quite lucky I think.

If it had happened in Europe the would've been coverage of every aspect of the race... we would have seen how she lost control. 270kph! Says a lot for the survivor cells.

she was hit by another car, resulting in damage to her front wheels, resulting in no steering or brakes.
