Any idea how long it would take to rebuild a R380 out of a td5.
And how hard.
Ive rebuilt a couple of series 3 gearboxes in the past.
Ie new bearings and seals.
Or is it worth getting a changeover.
Starting to get a little whine in 1,2 and 3rd.
Not really in 4th or 5th though.
Ill be doing the clutch in a couple of months so i tryibg to decide on if ishoukd bite the bullet and do it at the same time.
Opinions please.

Pretty straight forward box to do , especially if you're familiar with doing boxes in the past and definitely worth doing if there is bearing noise ,.
Get a master kit from Ashcroft's as well as a shim kit, and do the Synchro's while you're at it,
Take your time , the longest part is setting up main and layshaft preloads
Probably a full day to do ( box already out)
Hydraulic puller kit gets the rear output seal collar off easily ( they're tight)
If you're going to be towing etc its also worth getting the heavy duty rear bearings and getting a local machinist to open up the recesses in the rear housing to suit

Do you know the part numbers for the larger bearings?

Been about 9 months since I did one with those bearings , pretty sure I had it written down , along with sizes, have looked but it must be somewhere safe[bigwhistle]
Just a matter of getting the bearings along with the other bits , after all , I don't mind paying a bit extra for their r and d, they sell good stuff.

I spoke to Dave Ashcroft a while back but he wants me to send my alloy housing to the Uk which is a bit of a time consuming and expensive excercise.
If I could get it done locally I would just not sure what bearings they were using thats all
