View Full Version : Rear wiper failure

Just want to confirm if I’m up for a new rear wiper motor.

Our rear wiper failed earlier this week when SWMBO was driving the car. It made some sort of noise and then ended up in the wrong position (down near the door latch). I can freely move the wiper arm to any position by hand and the motor doesn’t work anymore. Anyone seen this before and could it be anything other than a motor failure?

thank

You’ll hear if the motor is trying to work if you sit in the boot area with wiper on and no engine noise.

I’d be more inclined to think a plastic gear has stripped when someone wrenched it.

I’ve found the issue. Motor and large green gear are both OK.

The issue is where the black wiper arm spindle sits in the arm attached to the green cog. The arm moves OK but the spindle just sits still in the arm as it appears to have become detached. I’m not sure how to repair this bit though. I suspect there is a broken clip or something on that spindle. I’m not sure what I need to fix or replace on this. Any ideas?

Spindle is possibly stripped on the spline, my brother had exactly the same on his merc.

Thanks, I suspect that is the case. I’ll have to take it apart again to see if it is stripped on the spline or the arm that connects to the gear mechanism (or both).
