Looks like i need to fly down to melbourne on the 21st and i have never been there before.

i am looking at catching the earliest flight down and the latest back but have no idea of the logistics of getting around down there.... earliest flight gets me there about 8:30am and latest leaves at 8:50pm

how far from town is the airport in peak hour? best way to get into town?

I have to meet some people to spend a few hours talking turkey but would like to say hi to some people down there etc etc https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

any info much appreciated....

Hi Incisor,
The only real way to the city is down the Tulla Freeway, whether you go over the new flyover across Flemington Road, or down Flemington road I would think is 50/50. The trip into town can take up to 1 hour in peak, normally 25 min.If you are in a bus or Taxi, they are quicker as they have special lanes. There are a couple of options if the freeway is RS, depends on your taxi driver, and that can vary.
You might look at the option of the Bus if just going into town.
I live the other side of the city, and have only seen the traffic from Tulla when I am going the other way.
Looks like we are putting on a typical Melb day for you too!!
Enjoy... it's a good town. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Hi Inc,

I think Deejay has pretty much summed it up... where in Melbourne do you need to get to through the day?

The skybus is defenateley the way to get to and from the airport in melbourne. Not too expensive for a return ticket, and very easy to use.

They don't RUN.... they crawl...and they stop...and they crawl.... and they stop.

Bust mostly in and around town and to some outer suburbs.

If in city, I may be able to point you to a few nice pubs with both the important elements:
Beer and Eye Candy

In the city https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ is all i know till next week... going down to see a guy who has about 10 shops down there so not sure which one it will be at, yet...

have youngest daughter (25) coming with me now as she wants to see a bit of melbourne as she has never been there ... so that has thrown a spanner in my works.

if you had to see melbourne in an afternoon, what would you recommend?

got to be back at the airport at 7:00pm for the flight home, so that limits the scenerio as well.

Cool,
I am right in the city, Bourke st at Spencer st end.
Not far from where the airport shuttle arrives and departs.
Not into shopping myself, but married to someone who is
I am told that any of the major city blocks are a shoppers therapy, unless you want to head to one of the shopping strips in the inner burbs.
Let me know if you need any help re trains, trams, lunch pubs and such.

Regards
Ralph

Youngest daughter....... shopping in central Melbourne..

I'd recommend you either hold on to your credit card really tight... or leave it at home

Seriously though Inc... it really depends on what sort of things she is into.. as the boys have suggested - she could fill the day shopping easily..

I try and stay OUT of the city if I can... luckily I don't have to work in there... there are so many different things.. it's hard to recommend for only the 1 day..

Cheers, Mark

I guess if there is one thing worth recommending is that (if the weather is clear) go see the view from the top of the Rialto.. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
