Hi Folks, this is only my second Post as I am new to this Forum having recently purchased a 2013 Disco TDV6 after previously owning a 2009 TDV8 RRS and earlier RR's and LR's. One thing I have noticed which is relevant to pretty much all of the interesting posts and that is the "Poster's" do not mention the klms their vehicle has done at the time of "the problem".
It would be very, nay, extremely, helpful if this was mentioned by the Poster, as we could build up in our minds a valuable "database" of the average age (klms) when we can possibly expect a problem to occur, which in turn would hugely assist those people who wish to carry our preventative pre-failure maintenance to their cars.
What I am trying to say is that, for example, we could come to the conclusion that say, an alternator, or water pump should be replaced at around 150,000 klms because that is pretty much the age when most people are reporting the failures.
Therefore, armed with such valuable knowledge, if my car is around those klms and I am about to undertake a long holiday over a few months I would replace those components prior to failure just to ensure a trouble free run.
Or am I trying to be too cautious?
Cheers,

Probably not very helpful, but my 2009 Defender 2.4 has done 115,000 kms and is fine except for needing a replacement clutch about 10,000 ks ago.

So my question is what is more relevant Km or age ?

FYI.
160,000km left hand intake manifold/valve cover.
220,000km throttle body split
255,000km right hand manifold split
In all honesty the km is less a factor. Age is quite a factor as well, plus luck.
Oh proactively I replaced my top water hose (small cut), water pump and water outlet at 240,000km when I decided to do a complete coolant flush. I also replaced the thermostat in the standard housing though I don’t think it’s a known issue.

That is an interesting question.
Or it could be the way it is driven,or the type of work the vehicle has done, lots of towing, off road work,or around town driving?
So many variables its ridiculous.
Even ambient temperatures can cause different issues,Darwin would cause different issues than a vehicle that resided in Tassy.
Mine did an EAS corner valve at around 50 000Km,then the EPB switch at about 62 000 km.

Particularly when you have a car that is on its second TDV6 (due to the first snapping a crank) where you don't know :
- How many Ks the donor had on it.
- How many Ks the chassis had on it when it was swapped (so how many Ks since the swap).
So I can quote mileage, but forward of the flywheel it all gets a bit hand-wavy.

For D1s, I can advise, just replace the original coolant overflow tank immediately, before it splits along the joint.

I think it was Sneigy (is he still on the forum?) who said that age does matter and that parts will degrade with age and should be replaced accordingly.

I think you blokes worry too much, regardless of what you do if the car is gonna break it's gonna break whether the car has 1k or 200,000ks old, all you can do is service the car and replace anything you may think needs it, and go, and most important of all is enjoy the trip.
Not all problems are determined by age or Ks, sometimes stuff just breaks.

Interesting comments from all that show, to me at least, that sometimes there is just a 'little bit of luck' when it comes to the service life of some components.
My D4 now has 253,000km on the clock and is going strong. I have always applied what some would call an over-servicing regime to my vehicles.
That said (touching lots of wood) I have not been let down by any of my LR's when out and about.
Looking at some of the comments re replacement of components I reckon a lot of the issues may have something to do with the work load (or lack of it) placed on the vehicle and some may have something to do with quality control at manufacture of the parts that make up the vehicle.
That's just a feeling I get!
I have had my vehicle serviced at the heavy duty cycle end of the schedule i.e. every 13,000km by folks that I believe to be very competent in their role as Land Rover service agents. I have always listened to their comments on how my vehicle is performing and what issues may be arising. That does not mean I have blindly followed their suggestions, far from it, but I have always considered their comments in deciding what work I would have done.
I have taken the view that I would rather spend some dollars in a workshop environment that lots of dollars when out on the road or worse still in a remote area.
Just sayin!
