if I had a van I’d sign up for one......have checked them out at camping shows, sadly it’s a little big for the 110HT, so chemical it is for us.

If I had a 130HT than I would defiantly install one.

I haven’t used or got one, but I’ve got a customer that uses one in their van and they absolutely love it. You just need the fan to run constantly which apparently uses bugger all power. I have also spoken to another potential customer that has one in their current van and loves it too. All you do is empty dirt, they tell me!

No. 1 and No. 2 are separated, empty dirt and empty liquid

it has two compartments

one wet, one dry

everyone needs to sit-down to pee for it to work as advertised

wet one needs emptying way more than the dry one.

We have a cassette we empty at dump points but at our last weekend away we were discussing this with a couple of backpackers in a little van.
They have a frame with a seat that takes plastic bags. Do the business, tie a knot in the bag and dump it in the nearest bin. Simples[bighmmm]

I’m not sure the backpacker way is the best way......imagine all the bins around carparks, shopping centers, campsites.

They look interesting. I'd never thought about one of these for the van,, now I'm thinking I might have to investigate a little more.

I found out there are apparently only two makers of composting toilets,,

Don't know if this link will work or not,,, but, it may help some decisions maybe. If you search this on Google, it'll bring up a few others as well.

we prefer the nature's head system and layout as space won't be an issue.

lots of happy customers out here and over there from what I have seen.

I know someone who had a similar one on his bush shack for years and was very happy with it. Made good fertiliser and I never smelt it when we visited.

Have been using this at our family camp for the past few years and it works well - Dry Flush | The Waterless Toilet (https://dry-flush.com)

I quite like that unit, except possibly a touch expensive on the refill side of things, with only 17-ish uses per cartridge.
Rather space age too [wink11]

Rather space age too [wink11]If it were needed regularly I would agree. It's expensive and overkill, but with three generations together and some needing convenient facilities in the middle of the night, or, multiple times in the middle of the night, it's been a game changer allowing those to continue to maintain comfort and therefore, remain with the family at camp.

I thought that might be the case - a mere thought only.

The mob that built my off road camper looked into using them. Two reasons they didn’t go with them were:
1. All but impossible to dust-proof;
2. Needs a constant power supply, even when stored and not being used.

They went with a 110L holding tank and macerator system, which is reasonably simple, and with that capacity, can last well over a week without emptying (we’ve gone 2 weeks). Yep, still need a dump point (or bury), but no chemicals involved, and you do need water to flush.
Nevertheless, it’s the best setup for us.

The laveo dry flush does not need a constant power supply, butdoes require its 12v battery have some charge left to 'flush'. We've used it for several days off grid without issue. As for dust, the design is all enclosed so other than the spinning 'diaper genie like' mechanism, nothing is exposed. We do store it with a bag over it when not in use but there isnt really any need to do so. The design keeps everything neat and tidy so the cover doesn't contact any of the contents secured within the cartidges and the same goes for disposal and replacement; clean, simple and easy. Now, as for camper use offroad, while we've hauled it offroad to/from camp we've not overlanded with it. It is possible with a lot of jarring that it may not hold up, same as we've all seen with anything not usually purpose built for that.

Considering the out-of-fashion-ness of plastic bags perhaps try using paper bags? Go on - try it and tell us how you get on! [bigsmile]
