Well it appears I may have found a brand new 2010 D4. Still trying to confirm details and get some pics but it appears that after it was purchased new, it was put in the original owners shed and has only just seen the light of day last month (November).

Information from someone who has supposedly seen the vehicle says it is dark green, so I am assuming Galway Green. No drivetrain information but I believe it is a 6.

The burning questions are,

Even though it no Kms on it, it is 8 years old so it is worth pursueing (one of my relatives is quite keen on it) AND
What is it worth ??

The full story and some pics hopefully in the next few days.

Think this must be the forum’s first barn find.

I’d be allowing to change all fluids and tyres.

Generally old unused cars get weird leaks due to seals becoming brittle including air cond. Don’t know how much to worry on a 2010.

Sounds good to me.

I would expect seals will be a higher risk than normal. If not brittle, they will have formed a position / shape microscopically and have somewhat set like that. They may weep a little to start and come good over time. Other than that, tyres will be past their best, battery probably no good. As already mentioned, full fluids changed to be sure.

With no lubrication the bores could be rusted.

I would think it still worth the same as any 2010 model in very good condition, it may have no mileage but it has other unknowns that balance that out.

And it is due a major service and new tyres.

There was a D3 that came up last year that had demo kms only - around 6,000 kms I think. I've also seen a D4 that had been parked in the shed and had nominal kms - about 1500 I think.

I was interested in the D3 but they wanted $35,000 for it and it was the base model in any case. I spoke to an independent LR mechanic and they thought that because it had been sitting in the shed for years and had never had a service you'd have to drain and replace all fluids in the car - that, a service and new tyres wouldn't leave much change from $5000. So, $40K for a 10 year old car. I put that to the seller and suggested that they drop the price accordingly but they obviously thought that I was just low-balling them. It did eventually sell, and I've always wondered what they got for it.

Edit: and what if it was one of the occasional "Friday" cars, and it's faults just hadn't become apparent yet?
