Went to the Porsche end of year car show in Perth a couple of weeks ago. A late 1960's 911 I nearly bought a couple of years ago for $15-18K was up for sale there. I walked by to have a look and it was now up around $120K and the owner was in negotiations with someone. Apparently over the last couple of years they are now collectors items as pure drivers cars so the price has skyrocketed. A day late and a buck short....

When I was still on P- plates I had a genuine XT GT falcon. Sold it for next to nothing. Sigh.

Where do I start.
Had both these Escorts, the Twin Cam would be worth four times what I sold it for now. As for the unmolested HR who knows. Thins you do to buy a house etc.

Traded my 1955 Kombi on my first Landrover in 1962-3. Anyone noticed what Kombis bring these days!

The old man bought his XW GTHO PHII around 72/73 and at the time he said he was offered a Dino Ferrari for about the same money [bighmmm].
Sold the GT when my little bro came on the scene in 76 and bought an RRC, my older bro and i never forgave him or younger bro for that.

I should never have sold my D2a
I will just leave it at that.
Oh,also the VS Clubby,manual,leather upgrade,original invoices,etc,should have kept it,immaculate.
The only smart thing we didn't do is sell the Series 1,or lose the log books, original invoices, etc.

Wish I still had my 57 FE I bought when I was 18. Only car I have owned that I regreted selling the moment I sold it . My wife wishes we still owned our 84 Rover 3500SE SD1 , every car we have owned since she tells me it is not as good as the Rover. I tryed to buy it back once for her but the guy wouldn't sell it.

Just imagine though the real cost of storing, moving and maintaining cars so that at 20-40 years on they are still functional. A spot in a vermin free water proof insulated shed isn't cheap over the time scales mentioned. A crappy single car shed covered in blackberries and with a dirt floor doesn't rate.

My FE plus 3 other vehicles I wish I still owned but didn't regret selling at the time 146584 the photo of the FE is when I 1st bought it before the 8" rims , lowering & engine mods. The Rover 3500SE was a amazing car to drive & ideal for long trips , we did around 300,000 Km's in it in the 4 years we owned it. 146585 If I could find another the same colour with the same trim I would sell the 1984 BMW E30 & buy it.

Oi, steady on.[smilebigeye] You just described my shed (ex working heavy horse stables). Under the Dirt floor is a red brick on edge floor covered in soil by the previous owners when they "upgraded" to a solid rubber tyred truck. Can even see the hollow in the floor where the horses stood & ****ed in the one spot for years.
Certainly has got a lot of character with 14" (350mm) diam Stringy Bark posts.
But dry, no not really as the fog blows through it but it is well ventilated though.[smilebigeye]
Hope this helps.

The very first car I bought at 19, albeit non running was a genuine LJ GTR Torana.
Metallic green, immaculate trim/interior and little rust.
I was going to build it up as a race car to take on the hoards of RX2's & 3's and lone Dolomite Sprint in the NSW Street Sedan class.
I eventually realised I wouldn't beat the Mazdas so sold it to my cousins hubby who finished the build and road registered it.
I then bought a Jeep. [bigwhistle]
Then was dumped by the GF a year or so later so went kart racing [biggrin]

I’ve recently been looking for an example of my first car - a mid 70’s Subaru wagon - bloody hard to find. Probably a good reason for that but sometimes I think I wouldn’t mind restoring one...
Mine was almost identical to the one below - colour and all including rust stripes from the rear window. A face only a Mother could love, but I’d like to find another one...

I forgot about this one 1967 MGBGT that I owned for around 10 years 146638 spent around $35,000 on it restoring it & sold it for just over half that amount. I don't regret selling it , it was too hot to drive most of the year. Replaced it with some thing with A/C
The engine bay 146684 The black hose on inner guard was an attempt to get cool ait into the cabin. 146685 I made up the wood dash.

I saw an identical Mini the other day to the first car I bought after school, the all-powerful 850cc in white with a blue roof. It was noisy, rattled and the door handles fell on the floor while driving, but it was fun. Would be very sentimental to have one, although a Cooper S would be better!

Ooh that looks like our family car when I was a kid.
We had a blue Californian with white Sunraysia wheels, big steel roll bar under the soft top, white steel bull bar and matching rear bar. We had it since new and traded it in (for about a grand) in 1988 on a second hand
1984 Mazda 323 hatch, as mum wanted something a bit more comfortable.
Imagine what the Moke is worth today compared to the 323 😳 😩😭

Wish I still had my Mini.
When i was 18 i bought a 66 850 mini for $250 with 6 months reg out of the trading post ( i wasnt dreamin ), on my first trip away it dropped a valve on the way to Mt Buller to go skiing. It was sold shortly after being towed back home, for the life of me i dont know why we didnt repair it. One of dad's customers was a mini specialist just around the corner from his shop so we could have fixed it on the cheap.[bawl]
