Unfortunately it takes more than a single weather event to break a drought.

After paying for an experts assessment on the field at Brighton juniors, and with 400 kg of special fertiliser to put down, we will take whatever we can get. At least our assessment was better than the AFL ground, Sandgate Hawks. It was determined as almost terminal.

Haven’t had the flooding rain they predicted. It was pretty constant but only 14mm in the gauge today - had 39mm a couple of weeks ago in less than 24 hours. Up North copped it a bit harder.

There is something falling from the sky this morning here in Westlake , Brisbane , not sure what it is think the last time I saw it they called it RAIN. Only spots at the moment need enough to fill 3 x 3000L tanks & & turn the dirt into something green if the grass is still alive.

I meant North Vic - the thread was started by another Melbournian so I was thinking more locally sorry. 😇

Tipped out 98.5mm of rain for Wandiligong this morning. This means we only have to find another 152.7mm for an average year. Only 66mm in the gauge at 1730 hrs yesterday. I was in Wangaratta yesterday and it was fairly damp there! Tarrawingee was flooded as well. Plenty of videos and pics in social media.

This thing, Owen, is supposed to be going accross above us this arvo or tonight.
So far it has been, a bit windy (no a gale or anything), a couple of showers, very overcast & onimous looking & very humid.
Mostly people have canceled their accommodation, half the town is closing early & it is all a bit of a storm in a tea cup.
No, I would not like to be right under it & yes we have ensured everything is strapped down & secure, the generator is full of fuel & we have stock for several weeks.
But so far not very exciting at all. Some rain would be nice, the river is pretty dry, but I don't think we will be getting much out of it.

PS The kids are looking out all the time going "Cyclone coming!"

Coming up from Melbourne early this morning, had to detour via Shepparton and Yarrawonga to get around the flooding on the Hume. One bloke on the radio said he had 240mm in under 4 hours!

As you are a fair way from the coast your chances of any decent rain can be hit and miss as you already know.
I am glad I decided to leave King Ash Bay when I did a couple of weeks ago because Centre Island has had about 6 inches of rain from this event and some pretty strong wins as well which would have impacted on KAB.

We had 33.5mm from Monday night to yesterday morning, with lots of sound and light effects - and there has been a dust storm since lunchtime yesterday!

Cyclone Owen has moved on to do it's thing elsewhere.
We didn't even get any rain except a couple of showers, it has cooled things down though.
So we wait for the next one, should be 3-5 in the Gulf going on history.
Hope Owen doesn't bugger up anybody's day!

It seems Sydney and Melbourne have both managed a good deal of weather chaos over the last few days without the help of a cyclone! At least in the area likely to be affected by Owen people are (or should be) prepared for this sort of weather.

Certainly nowhere near the figures they have been predicting from Owen. From the BOM site it is nearly down my area and all we have had is a few sprinkles over the last couple of day. The biggest total was about 16mm. Nothing like the predicted totals of 200+ . It's a bit of a fizzer as far as rain goes.

Better be warned and disappointed than not warned and hammered, I think.
Nice steady drizzle overnight and continuing today here.
The lawn was brown and crackly when we got home from Sydney yesterday, so the rain is welcome.

I read a quote somewhere yonks ago, where the Weather Forecasters do the Racing Forecasts & the Racing Forecasters do the Weather.
Neither seem to be able to get it correct.
