View Full Version : Lime e-scooter in Brisbane nearly caused accident

Someone was nearing the work car park and noticed two girls in very short shorts bending over and seemed to be having a problem with an e-scooter

Driver looks up, slams on breaks and pulls up millimeters from car in front.....

Swing around to carpark and one of the girls had stacked their scooter and had grazed her knee......like to you really need to bend over at the hips to look.

So the helmet should really be for the driver , not the scoot rider 🤔

My office is in Southbank (Grey Street) and I see this stupid things all the time...someone is (if not already) going to be seriously injured or killed.

I just about got knocked from behind as I was walking up the footpath. These scooters can do a fair rate of knots and combined with people who have no idea how to ride them, it's a reciepe for disaster.

Not to mention that users just dump them anywhere.

what a stupid idea

ok. i'll go back to work now

You might have seen me on one today given you’re just around the corner

Agree there are going to be some by-standers injured along with riders....yes they go fast and with both pedestrian and rider being unpredictable it’s a recipe for disaster

I haven’t seen any dumped, they seem to get parked up against building or mostly out of the way.

Although I’m very surprised they have been given the Lime ‘Green’ Light

Attempting to introduce in U.K. however have a problem that rules are can only be driven on private land. Ride them off private land and police will fine you as the vehicle is not registered and insured

I must be living a very sheltered life.

Until now I have never heard of a lime scooter and it seems lots have...taken for granted.

Is it a city thing? In which case I will never see one , I don't go near the city.

If it's like those pushbikes every one leaves all over the gold coast I can understand them being left everywhere. Quite disgusting actually.

I went for another boom today.....had a work brunch.

The one I had going there got me upto 26km/hr than I discovered the brakes weren’t very effective. Adjusted them at the lights than was back flat out. My workers got a laugh when I pulled up.

The return journey wasn’t overly exciting

Got back to work safely....didn’t appear to annoy any pedestrians.

One lady did suggest I should do the chin strap up on my helmet....

Oh had working brakes on both scooters today.

Next time pretend you are somewhere that doesn’t have a helmet requirement.

Police would like to remind those who choose to ride personal mobility devices, such as electronic scooters, that drink driving laws apply,

Do electric wheelchairs and invalid scooters have exemptions?

I have asked that several times. Also should they not require safety equipment such as helmets or seat belts ?

Bloody stupid scooters......

I either went into an exclusion zone or it was faulty....kept alarming when I was near the mall and shut down twice

I’m thinking the operator have had to tighten up the sensitivity near the exclusion zones.

Will have to suss out a different route back to the office.

I spotted two abandoned on Milton Rd the other evening opposite were the tennis courts are just laying on the foot path, I could not see anyone around. The nearest person was in the play ground & that is set back well off the road & at least one house block from were they were laying. [bighmmm]

Yeah sure there are undesirable around and given the system puts 100% faith in the public its going the be smooth sailing. Suppose they are punting on hire income is more than damage sustained. I’m assuming if the GPS system is still functioning than a juicer will collect it.

I haven’t seen any mis use or damage in the CBD.

Wish other Cities had the balls to allow these. Melbourne is so risk averse they wouldn’t even consider them. Hopefully over time the early adopters can show it can work and others will catch on.

Keep us updated on your rides Weeds, I like reading about them. 👍

There are reports of some really bad accidents on the scooters.....

I’m pretty careful and to date no close calls.

It was a giggle watching two girls dinking each other on the one scooter...a guy walks out of a shop diagonally across the front on them wearing a big set of headphone, how the girls managed to avoid him avoid him I have no idea...guy didn’t even realise...he than stepped onto the road and got beeped by a car for j walking.

Quite a site.

Saw a couple ridthem in Malvern a few weeks ago. Yeah we are all expected to cover up in bubble wrap and a myriad of other helmets and pads , but these two had no helmets and the cops drove by without giving them a look. Guess if this is legal in other countries .....

Grrrrr

Firstly there were no scooters around my work when I needed to head to the blood bank....had to walk 500m or more

Secondly the go slow mode they have programmed is annoying......I use bike lanes in the road where I can but the gps thinks I’m in the footpath. When your doing 26km/hr rubbing shoulders with buses (rubbin Racin isn’t it) and you suddenly loose power on the road is frustrating

Same issue earlier this week when I had to get my visa....
