I notice that when you drive a Landie and a Toyo or Nissan driver, ( but mainly Toyo land bruiser drivers) hate being behind a
Landie. They just can't wait to overtake you, it's like there is the mentality that they have to lead they just can't seem to bear being in traffic stuck behind or lead by a Landie. Or is it just my imagination???

i get that too....they rush to get past me so they can cut in infront of me....

maybe the sticker on the back upsets them.....?
(it says...."attach buggered toyotas here"....and has an arrow pointing to the towbar...)

on monday i saw a toyota cruiser......it must have had 28 inch chrome rims
with about 30 series tyres....including spare.....which was mounted on a
rear wheel carrier........which also had on it a jerry can......
it had bull bar and i think a winch and spotties........cargo barrier....
it looked well set up for the suburbs......

the bullbar and rear step/wheel carrier and even the jerry can were painted
the same colour as the car......
it looked very bling.......

it even had a spare spare underneath in the normal spot.....
probably the original......

Around here a good proportion of the LC100 drivers are up themselves, so they tend to pass everyone, drive too fast and hog carparks.

The rest of the Toymota and datsun drivers are pretty good!

I get a lot of looks though, I think because not only do I have one of only four D3s in town, but I've got all the add-ons as well(now including the rooftop tent).

The tent will stay on until I can get around to engaging in a little panel work on garage door opening so I can get the car in to winch off the tent.

Hi Guys
A few weeks back we went to Bunbury.A few of you WA guys will know Roelands Hill between Bunbury/Collie.
I had a 80 Series Tojo on my back bumper at the Southwest Hwy turn off.He hung onto BlackBettys bumper like a dirty big heammoroid. We got to the overtaking lane that starts at the bottom of the hill and goes all the way up.On goes his indicator when he pulled level I let BlackBetty have a full head of steam in 4th.The look on the other drivers face was priceless as we departed and I gave a friendly wave, she held 120Ks all the way up the tight pinch in fourth then 110 in fifth the rest of the way up. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ AND THE CLOUD OF BLACK SMOKE AT THE START SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM HE WAS HOSED BY A DIESEL NOT A V8 https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
A mate at work just paid a lot of money for a nice 80 Series Diesel Tojo,he was telling today its a gutless heap of POO.Boy did I laugh"Baz I did tell you that before you bought it" https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ Apparently he went to overtake a roadtrain coming back from Perth,he got 1/2 way around and the hill started to get steeper,AND THE ROAD TRAIN STARTED TO MAKE GROUND ON HIM https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
I told him I cant wait to give him an "ovetaking lane drag race" 8) 8) 8)

ive done similar to what the tojo has done.......

i refuse to back off on hills and will jump in the overtaking lane so as not
to back off the throttle......cos if i do......lurch will refuse to get up the hill...
i will have to start changing gears to get up at 70kph....
whereas if i keep it planted it will drop down to 90kph....and pretty much hold that
speed to the top......

as soon as my speed starts to drop off....i then jump back in to the left lane
as i definitely wont be doing any overtaking up hill.....lurch isnt chipped....

Its not your imagination Rovernaut, especially if you have an older vehicle. It must be a case of, "Well I spent 50 grand more than you- so take this".!!!
I did have a Rangie driver once, he had passed my wife in her Disco, who was following me to a workshop ( funny 'bout that) he blatently cut her off- not wise with me in front, then proceeded to overtake me over double lines.
I put the foot down and we level pegged it from 60 to 110k/hr by which time we hit a blind corner.
He girled it - probably wise, Jeez he was going berko stuck behind me, so I pulled over and waved him by- even threw him a kiss.
Christ my wife got stuck into me, and she has a long memory https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I would agree with most of that. Up here as soon as they see you are in a Landie they try to pass. More than one Cruiser driver has got a shock when either they could not get around me or when they did I stayed right on their tail. Most flog the guts out of them especially company utes and most times they go past reving their ring out, belching smoke and getting to their destinationa whole few seconds ahead. On the flat cruisers will usually pass me at about 140kph, but on the hills the Rover diesel pulls a lot better and reels them back in. Even on the Duc a lot of cars fly past, now I could leave them for dead but I value my licence so I sit on 120-130. Most think it is a god given right to drive at 140kph.

Hmmm... the fender is really slow through the first few gears, but once it's up into 3/4 it seems to be more than adequate. I've had a few diesel hi-luxes dart away from me at the lights and then I steam past them up the hill. It would appear they are faster 1/2 but the fender is better after than. I think it's the low gearing in part. I'm sure auto disco's aren't too bad. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

The other thing that amuses me is that most uninformed onlookers seem to think our car is a fully restored 30yo LR 8O I think this may be part of the problem. I had one guy at a servo say that was the best 74 lr he's seen. I did mention to him that it was only 5 months old at the time... LOL. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Yep I have done the same, once coming back from Goulburn I passed the same toyota 4 times on the hills his run ups were getting bigger and bigger.

Years ago when I had my old series II I was stuck behind a hilux on a track and there was another 4 vehicles behind me this bloke would not let anyone pass after 20 mins got feed up and I knew there was a wide shallow river crossing, pulled back a little and when he entered the river I speed up and passed on his right, water spraying up his window down , he pulled up after that and let everyone pass.

I haven't had a problem yet when it comes to speed.

The D3 might be a bit fat, but when I push the Auto gear lever over to the left, she fairly flies! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

no..it wasnt that.....the one i saw looked like a well set up vehicle......
it had all the accessories for touring......looked as good as a toyota can look.....
but was set up for touring the blacktop only......the rims on this one would have to have been
upwards of 24".....maybe 28".......and a bit of rubber around that.....
but to colour match the jerrycan....?

I love passing drugged out hippies in their flogged out vans/wagons, 2nd gear in the Rangie, change at 6000rpm just after the drivers window.

A roaring Rover V8 through a 2.5" exhaust snaps them out of their daze proper.

I was driving to bathurst a while back, i had my muddies on so my gearing was up the **** so on every hill i didnt have the speed like i normally do. But there was a clown in a 80 series towing a trailer with a spa on the back (a big one) he was flogging the crap out of the cruiser trying to maintain 120km/hr, i just sat behind him and passed him when the opportunity arrose, the next hill that came up he dropped right back and got a huge run up when it passed me i wound the window down to hear his engine i swear to god the cylinders were going to come through the bonnet, black smoke everywhere, i just let him go. Once he was in front he was happy to slow down a bit so i just followed behind. Was ammusing watching him though. Matt

Our vehicles have stood the test of time (laugh at the latest 4 door *eep). Just sit back, enjoy the 10km/L or thereabouts and WHO CARES.

This is one of my pet hates, it usually seems to be playdo and 100 l/c's that do it occasionally a pajero but rarely a nissan - maybe coz they copied the rangie suspension so closely that they cant be too smart @ssed about it !
