Hi guys,

I have a 2010 TDV6 6sp. It's a sport. But I figured this is the place to post.
Well maintained vehicle, fluid change in gearbox and diffs at 110kms. Now at 150kms. Pretty much all highway driving. The car is smooth. The only thing I can think of is some suspension bushes and ball joints might need to be replaced soon. I had LCAs done at 80kms.

I have this noise I feel when I take off, and just before the first gear change you hear/feel a clunk or thud.

Only in 1st to 2nd gear.

Then a feel like a related problem, if I'm on gravel, e.g side of the road and the car has to work to grab traction(barely, I'm not flooring it) or the wheels are working at different speeds,(like a u turn and you drive up kerb slowly as you can't make it on the bitumen) I hear this contstant thudding clicking noise when turning.
Or driving with power.

It sounds like the front of car.

But it's weird. If I finish driving the car and turn it off, come back to it...the noise isn't there.

It only comes on sometimes. And will reset if you turn the car off.

I would have thought it's related to diffs, gearbox, driveshafts, transfer case.

It's like the driveshaft spline is slipping in the diff? That's the sound it makes, not grinding but clicking

Any help would be appreciated. maybe I need another fluid change. No visible signs of leakage etc.

Cheers
Jeremy

Suggests a worn front CV joint but perhaps the centre diff is grabbing and needs to be recalibrated. When the noise occurs, is the car less inclined to turn than usual?

No it will still steer normally.

But the thudding is bad when it happens.

Mayne a trip to the mechanic. As I can't see anything out of the ordinary underneath.

Cheers

Find someone with an IID tool and do a transfer case recalibration. The symptoms of clunking when turning are similar. Have a search on here as there have been a number of these. See if their symptoms match yours.

I think I may have read something along the lines of advising not to do this without first changing the oil? Does that sound right at all?

A run of L494 & L405 had their TCs filled with the wrong oil which needed a double flush then a recalibration.
