Is this a hard job? I assume one should stick with a Denso, and what sort of dollars are we talking?

Not hard. Was my first foray into being a Land Rover mechanic, well any type of mechanic actually. Got the tools to remove the viscous fan but other members have improvised. A set of stubby ratchet spanners are great to remove the alternator bolts. Think 13mm but not sure. May need a longer one to break the bolts free. I also disconnected a coolant hose that runs vertically for a bit more room to work the alternator out. Didn’t lose much coolant. I say go for it.

I sourced one for my son 2 years ago after trying Super Cheap and Repco realised they got them from
Ashdown Ingram, went direct . His mates went and bought one each after seeing the price. All 3 are still going strong despite not being genuine. We had to change the pulley, used a ratchet gun and took the old one off and swapped them.

Why did you have to change the pulley - the ones from Ashdown Ingram are OEX Brand made in Taiwan and the one I got did not need a pulley change.

Also shop around - Aussie price is between $500 and $1100 for the same item. If you order form the UK maybe down to about $300/$350.

We had to change the pulley because t
here was a back order wait for the one we wanted. They were out of stock, however the same alternator with a different pulley was available. it was cheaper than Repco's "special $750 price for you mate". I think maybe $600 can't remember exactly because of old buggers disease.

I recently paid $738 Inc labour.
Luckily my battery was still ok.
