Errr... Why junk the heater box? I doubt it was to save weight for racing... 8O
If you were having problems with the screen misting up then all you needed to do was remove the gromet at the bottom to let the water drain out.

These are still available from some auto shops (a bit more modern looking now):

I use one on the front screen & one on the rear screen on one of my old cars.

I didn't ask for why don't i keep my heater box! and if you must know its cause the pipes to the core are in a ***** of a place, right behind my motor and it takes up way to much space under the dash

Sorry, that's only a photo I found on the net  .
They do the job given time but I only use them because I have no other option (no heater, no water pump, no demister vents).
The 12v hairdrier would be a better option if you could rig it up to the original demister ducting. I bought a cheapie a while ago to use as a rear demister in another old car but I havn't gotten around to rigging it up yet.

What about a smaller heater box? Such as a corona item.
Easy to plumb into a LR/RR and still pretty small?

My heater box expired in a cloud of steam ages ago and I bypassed the unit. In the USA the are lots of different types of hot air blowers, but I've yet to find anyone in Oz who stocks them....
Where I live, a heater is not a top priority, hence no fixy on the old unit. but i do need something and thanks for the prompt, I'll try and get my local bus to motor home converter to get some of these gadgets - in the USA they're really cheap. Funny that the various auto shop franchises don't stock 'em......given they sell just about everything else, even ladders.
Cheers, GQ

GOOD IDEA! i actually just finished doing just that, i used a 60 series rear heater, the one under the drivers seat, and made my own pipe collector box and have for demist only, seems to blow quite well, Thanks all

Ahem!!! I was just asking a question to get a bit of background. I think you'll find a problem becomes easier to solve if more is known about the background to the problem and rationale behind the thinking.
Comments like that make you come across like a snotty nosed pr1&k which I hope wasn't your intention.... Or was it?? :!: :?:

I had one of those electrical things on my S2a in the mid sixties - worked very well, and I am keeping my eyes open to get two for my current 2a - couldn't work much worse than the current setup, and have the advantage they work with the engine cold - worth thinking about on cold winter starts!

electric element heated windscreens are available in the UK as an option on Defenders.
We used to use one of those little stick on elements in the old '69 Toyota Crown ute that was 'my' vehicle as an apprentice. Absolutely bloody useless. One had to ensure there was clean rags in the front when it rained so one could see where one was going....
