Hi, I’m again struggling to work out where to post this, so I’ll fire it up here and someone can let me know where to move it perhaps.

I have a 2A 88” and it’s fitted with this old radio. Information online seems very scarce, I was wondering if this was common or if anyone else has one?

Currently out of the Landie for cleaning/troubleshooting.

Definitely never a factory option, nor I dare say most likely never a dealer option,

Almost definitely fitted by previous owner, The fact that its BMC suggests its was relieved from some British car that did have a radio as an option.

Good to know goingbush!

Could never find a picture online.

Obviously you’d never hear it over the noise of the engine and trans, but I do a lot of driving around town, and it would be nice to hear some Triple R at the traffic lights!

TripleR on an AM radio, I don't think .

Being a LandRover driver from early on I've never got into the habit of listening to radio or music whilst driving, and thats stuck even when I drive quiet cars.

My Series Landrovers have all been fitted with radios (by myself) since the first one I got in 1962.

I have had no issue listening to the radio in them - the solutions are twofold; firstly, a speaker close to your right ear, secondly, drive at a reasonable speed.

My current Series vehicle is fairly low noise level (for a Series), thanks to a late S3 cab with sound deadening on the roof, and close attention to sealing of all holes in the firewall and floor, as well as door seals. Also helps to have more road oriented tyres. Speakers are in the door trim (which also helps).

It's an Astor Diamond Dot (see the small blue circle in the top right corner) car radio, considered to be a very good radio in their day. Is there any model no. on it any where?

There are quite few pics of that front plate on a Google image search for "Astor Diamond Dot car radio" but they have "Astor" not "BMC" on them.

Actually, I’m normally the same. I either like the windows shaking or nothing at all. Usually nothing. My daily driver is a Citroen Xsara VTS and it has the best induction noise, so I usually listen to that [emoji51]

Nice.

Mine’s open-sided, I often have the roof off altogether.

Also, I’m completely incapable of driving at a reasonable speed! 🤣

Amazing. I would never have found that on my own!

I’ll look for a model number. Do you know where I’d find a manual or schematic for it?

I knew the Diamond Dot radios back in the day. I have some circuit diagrams but unlikely to have that one. Model no.? No it's just a matter of looking all over it. If you find any text on it, post pics of it.

The Astor Diamond dot radio was also fitted to Valiants of the late 60s - when fitted as a OEM option, they had the Astor name replaced with Valiant like the one in this thread has BMC on it but the Valiant ones did not have "all Transistor" as well.

We had three Valiants in the late 60s and they all had this radio fitted - from what I can remember they were a quality item and worked well - as well as AM could - had no choice but to listen to the footy and horse-racing on the weekends and horse racing all week.

This page (https://www.kevinchant.com/astor--air-chief--eil--diamond-dot.html)might help when you find a model No.

And there's this (http://www.amvcnsw.com.au/austin1800/WS_Articles/BMC%20car%20radio.pdf)
