Many moons ago I commenced making a powered trailer but it just got too heavy so I gave up.
I wonder how close development is to producing an electric motor driven axle assembly?
I'm thinking a modular unit that could go under existing camper trailers/vans etc & possibly have batteries - good for a kilometre or two.
It could be camped on to the vehicles ECU & used to supplement drive where absolutely required (Inskip point comes to mind)
Maybe the current draw would be too great but I reckon someone will get around to it.. Cheaper than a 6x6.

There was a great 60's promotional film of a Series Landie with a driven trailer pacing a Rover 3500 on the road which suddenly turned to gloop & the Rover slid all over the place whilst the Series kept up the pace. I'll keep looking for it...

There were production "driven trialers" that used the rear PTO output.

The PTO powered trailers weren’t a great success - although they certainly gave extra traction, it was found that if the towing vehicle was jackknifed then the trailer drive could (and did) flip the drive vehicle on its side. 😁

Elecric power seems a better way to go, but if the control wasn’t fool proof, the trailer could, in theory, also bring the vehicle into harms way, so not sure how the authorities would view this. I should think it could technically be classified as a vehicle as it has its own motive power, so current regs would put the kybosh on that straight away...

the box design that provided the drive for the perentie 6x6 is the same as the one that was used in the fc101 with the powered trailer...

its just they really shortened up and stiffened the connection of the trailer to the back of the vehicle.

Never thought backing a trailer was hard myself but judging on what I see at the tip and boat ramp, I’m in the minority. 😆
