Hi All,
I have some stubborn marks on the paint of my Puma which wont come off. One is some bird sh*t that is staggering in ts tenacity which I want to remove. Vehicle has been cut/polished once and I'd rather not do again.
Is there anything I can use locally to remove the stains. The bug guts are all across the front of the bonnet and blank vents under the windscreen. The tree gubbins is on the bonnet and the bird tu*d is one streak down the back door.
I also have a full length Pioneer Rack (Rhino Rack) I need to remove at some stage to clean the roof. It's filthy but will need to wait a while.
Cheers.
Andrew

If bird poo has been allowed to sit for a while, especially in hot weather, it will eat into, and "etch" the paintwork, in which case you will not be able to remove the etching.
There are all sorts of "coatings" available today that are supposed to be bird poo proof,..but I'm skeptical.

A local lady told me some sodium bicarb in water will get Jacaranda sap off the paintwork

I'm a bit annoyed with myself with letting the mess sit there. I got 90% of the guff off but, my word, what do the birds eat in the Vic Highlands.

"What do the birds eat" has a lot to do with it, because what they eat has a lot to do with what is deposited on your paintwork,...in other words someone may work out a polish/protectant etc that would combat a certain type of bird poo, but then the bird might digest something else which would result in a totally different composition of bird poo against which that polish/protectant would be useless.Pickles.

Brand new razor blade on an almost flat angle against the paintwork will remove whatever is above the paint. If its etched into the paint . Boohoo.

Wouldn't it be great if birds learned to eat polish/protectant .... that way when they pooed on your car it helps to protect and polish it. [biggrin]

You could try a clay block , you can buy it from Supercheap ect. All our workers had over paint spray on the vehicles from the company across the road who were repainting there silos. It took all the over spray off. It is worth a try & not hard work like cut & polish.

Each night where I live we get bats fly over and they seen to target any car that not garaged their droppings are the worst if left too long

"Australian mistletoes spend a life airborne on a host tree's branch, and very briefly, inside a bird.
That bird is a flower-pecker named, helpfully, the mistletoe bird. It's as small as a sparrow and must have one of the fastest digestive systems in the country. It's apparently 14 minutes from go-to-whoa, and they eat any mistletoe fruit they come across.
Their poo comes out sticky and full of seeds, and — here's an interesting thing — when they feel the urge, they turn their body along the branch rather than off it. They deposit the seed directly onto the tree instead of onto the ground, or your car below." from The bulloak jewel butterfly and how the web of life affects us all — from mistletoe to humans - Science News - ABC News (https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2019-01-06/bulloak-jewel-butterfly-ant-mistletoe-a-web-woven-across-species/10477430)

Bird poo is pretty nasty stuff as it is corrosive and it will strip the paint off cars and boats, Then we have bat poo which is pretty much the same as bird poo But it also smells pretty nasty as well.
I find that hosing the majority of it off and letting it soak few a few min will soften it up then wash the car/boat with truckwash which will remove it But you have to do this regurlary otherwise it will start to eat the paint away.
