Hello community,
I shipped my Defender TDI (1997) from Germany to Australia and now I am travelling through Australia and I need help programming my second key fob.
Does anyone could help me programming it? Now I am in Victoria but I will travel around Australia.
It would be great if someone could help me. Thank you in advance.
Best regards

What does one need to program a key fob? I have Testbook/T4 but does a '97 Defender have any diagnostic ports?

Hello Ron,
Yes. The TDI has a diagnostic port. I do not know if one can programm the fob with it or even deactivate the deimmobilizer.
But we give it a try.
Could you send me your adress via PM then we can arange something.
thank you so much for your offer!

I'm in western Sydney so I'm a little bit away from you at the moment.
I'll ask my friends at a local LR workshop for info on how to do it. :)
I just looked in RAVE and found:
NOTE: New handsets must be be initialised using TestBook.
so maybe I can do it. The car appears to have a standard OBD connector.
PM sent

BTW, if anyone in Melbourne (or between there and Sydney) can help Philipp before he gets to Sydney, that would be good. I have to check that I have the Defender diagnostic software for the T4. I have D2, P38A, and early L322 but I haven't done any T4 work on a Defender.
EDIT: Yes, I have the diagnostic software for the 1997 Defender.

Well, we tried T4 (Testbook) on Philipp's 1997 300Tdi Defender but without success. It seems his Defender doesn't have the 10AS security system. It has a small black box in front of the battery but we have no idea what it is. I found it is mentioned in a thread on LandyZone (see Immobilisation spider location on Def 1997 300 Tdi? | LandyZone - Land Rover Forum (https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/immobilisation-spider-location-on-def-1997-300-tdi.174036/#post-4524499) ) but have had no repsonse thus far.
Can anyone on here help?

I can program my key fob on my 96 Disco 300tdi using hawkeye, so a 97 defender should be similar.

Yes, but yours has the 10AS security system as do most 97-> Defenders.

This one doesn't have it.

Umm, is the little black box front of the battery OEM?
Or is it aftermarket??
I have a 2000 defer without 10AS from factory (I believe), I don’t have a fob so I’m guessing I have no additional security.

Hi Ron, The last time I had to get a pre-1999 Land Rover with a immobiliser going was a Disco 1 V8, which has the "spider" as mentioned. It wouldn't respond over and over again each time I tried to programme it, then suddenly it worked and started. If its got a similar setup to a Disco 1, I'd keep trying. The painful part of the T4 is having to start from the beginning each time.
Other info;
I didnt think any pre-1999 Defender used the 10AS.
Saying that being an import, there may well be variations on what system was used (them Europeans being the thieves they are [bigrolf] )
