Folks, this is not strictly a technical topic (or is it?). If you are going to 4WD on Stockton beach, please be aware that driving in the sand dunes can be VERY dangerous. Numerous people have bee injured by 4WDs and dune buggies coming blind over a sand dune and landing on them. There have been a number of rollovers from poor technique. The latest bit of foolishness comes from a young bloke from our work who, with his mates, decided to see whose 4WD perfomed the best on the sand dunes. Chris's Prado roared over a dune, crashing down onto a smaller, invisible to him, dune, driving all of the front suspension backwards and writing off the vehicle. He and his young sister, who for some inexplicable reason were NOT wearing seatbelts, were immediately propelled forwards coming into violent contact with the windscreen, fortunately, apart from cuts and bruises, not seriously injuring themselves. Thank God it was only a dune and not another vehicle or a camp site. Heads up folks! Stockton sand dunes are a dangerous place and deserve a healthy level of respect when driving there. Please look after yourselves and other users.
