I am looking at buying a 1997 or 1998 TDi Disco, and am just wondering about insurance premiums for full comprehensive insurance

I am an under 25yr old male, with no accidents or offences in the last 5 years, living in a 'low risk' regional area.

(being an under 25 male has really hurt with my motorbike insurance... is it the same when insuring a 4wd?)

Just a ball-park figure (to the nearest $500) will do, as i have been unsuccessful with the online quotes.

I am pretty sure you'd pay around $1000.

I found quotes online for $600 with allianz and a couple of the other insurers,

but,

if,

The vehicle has to be comprehensively insured from the moment you buy it, the price you buy at has to be inside redbook value, blah, blah, blah.

Pain in the arse.

Ended up with NRMA, over a thousand, but in the city. AAMI, Shannons, all the same, around the $1000-1400.

Oh, that's for a 96 Defender.

Shannons quoted me $1400 and thats with a 60% no claim for life. GIO does mine for $688 based on $32000 and taking into account the suspension mods (Which they penalise you for). But I'm in an older category.

With fully comp insurance, be careful what mods you have on the vehicle.

When I tried to insure my 95 Disco, my current insurance co wouldn't even consider it, as it had too many mods.
It only has LPG, snorkel, bullbar, winch, F&R airlockers....all of which are legal, but deemed as straying too far from the std vehicle.

AAMI see ok, they just say list all accessories, and have no issues with my mods - as long as they were acceptable to RTA.
