Hi All,

I hope this is not repetitive but I couldnt find anything in the search.

I'm putting boxes in the back of my Disco 4 and of course the 3rd row seats underneath prohibit you from accessing the spare wheel winch winder. I dont really want to put an aftermarket spare wheel carrier on the back and I was wondering if anyone has changes the winder to one that can be accessed from underneath the car and if you did what winder did you use.

TIA

Louis

There is a post on here where someone designed an external winder. Others have made an extension for the winder so it can be used from within the boxes by sliding out a drawer etc.

Rather than changing the winder, an extension bar in 1/4" will fit down between the seats.
You just need to have a hole in the base of your drawers in the required position.

On later model D4s an adapter to fit over the winder head is also required.
I made up my own but you can now just buy one from Tuffant > 1/4 Wheel Winder Adapter for Discovery 4 (Late Model) | TuffAnt (https://www.tuffant.com/product-page/discovery-4-late-model-1-4-wheel-winder-adapter)

An old thread on the topic here > Spare wheel winder access via socket extension (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/152910-spare-wheel-winder-access-via-socket-extension.html)

Cheers,
Scott

I wonder if Land-Rover made the same spare wheel winder mistake with the D5?

LouisYes I've made one. I can find the posts later otherwise search for my "Lance" thread in the D4 area, I think it was in there.

I always hoped some clever dick would commercialise this idea...

Here was my effort Miffy.
It was fabricated from a chain spare wheel winch from a Triton but many Jap utes use the same system.
