my mate had just fitted arb lockers to his cruiser. we were about to go out and drive some of the tracks i will be taking the s/e aulro guys on in may, just as we are heading off he radios me and says his rear locker is not engaging, i hopped out to observe as he was not happy as this was his first time off road with the lockers fitted. the compressor would just keep running. after plenty of ribbing from me we worked out that the seal must be leaking inside the diff as the compressor was pressurising the diff, funning thing was after a bit of a drive and the diff was warm the locker would engageno probllem. he did not get arb to fit the lockers and still has left the orginal oil in the diff he is hoping thinner oil will fix the problem, umm not sure myself but i'm no expert and he's a bloody good mechanic so i will await the outcome. we swapped the wiring over so the the front diff would engage first. as we are driving around to one of the trackes i'm giving him heaps about his locker not engaging so when we got to a tougher section i figured i would have a go with open diffs and show him up, i took it easy on the first go with no luck so i reversed a meter or so and tried the flat out aproach for which i got a little further. the cruiser had already cruised up with at least the front locker engaged. after a bit of wheel spinning i engaged my lockers and joined him at he top. we than went down a track that was a dead end and on the way back i heard a bit of a crunching noise which i put down to either a rock or stick, further on i could not turn to the right, i got out had a bit of a look could not find anything wrong, hopped back in and the steering was fine, drove another couple of km's and went to turn left to get off a ridge and the steering would not turn. we didn't hear a bang we figured it couldnt be the diff so we checked the steering box, removed the steering damper, front steerign rod. after jacking the wheels off the ground we discovered the right cv was the problem. we started to pull her apart and discovered we could not get the caliper off as the right spanner was back at camp olong with it getting dark i grabbed the beer out of the engle and left the fender on the ridge for the night. in the morning we pulled her apart and removed the cv.
guess who copped a ribbing for the rest of the weekend
