No rust in Chassis anywhere, I could see, just some surface rust.
Surround rear light protectors.

Pictures would help, and the only absolute way of determining age would be the chassis number. If, as it appears from the description to be a late 2a (post 69) Australian army model, the number will be on the LH back rear spring hanger, the flat vertical bit just above where the shackle is attached. You may need to sand the paint off to see it. Should also be on a plate on the firewall in front of the gear lever, and there should also be a plate on the LH end of the seat box - but these are screwed on and may be missing or off another vehicle.

Probably well worth $100, if only for parts!

Chassis 253241945.
Gearbox starts with 251
Holden 173 red motor.
series 3 wipers and motor, with strip covering assembly and cover over wiper box.
Found another couple of plates. Small square one, paint has been scratched off. Will see if I can get anything from it.

That’s not worth $100, I will help you out and give you back the hundred you spent on it and give you another hundred for your effort getting it home.

If the vehicle is a Series 2a, and with the serial starting with 253, it has to be, it should end in a letter suffix - and you seem to have one digit too many; should be only five after the 253, so I suggest the '5' might be a letter, - A-H, which will tell us roughly when it was made. The "series 3 wipers" were fitted to Series 2A from suffix 'D' (1967) onwards.

Hope this helps

Thanks John.
will look for letter.

Looks like a D, half the size of the numbers.
Looks like the Chassis was Gal at some point. where paint has peeled off looks like dull gal finish.
Try and get some pics.

The cut front guards, tail light buckets, what appears to be a small rear cross member hole and dual tanks point to military but at first glance the chassis number does not seem to appear on the ARN list on REMLR. The chassis number 25324199D does appear as a 1968 GS.

Does the chassis have extended spring mounts ??

whitehillbilly64

Yes, extended spring mounts, front springs and rear springs.
What about if the 1 is actually a 7 ?

Nice score for $100 interesting blanking of light holes in radiator support panel

I prefer the squint eyed look to wide light configuration

Great work.
Not sure what to do with it yet, just thought i should save it from the Crusher.
Pulled out plugs, all were nice and tanned on the tips, so was running spot on when parked.
Would the Holden motor, with Alternator be Neg Earth ?
Also what motor was originally fitted, to what numbered gearbox ?
Thanks

Holden motor would have been negative earth. Positive earth alternators are almost unheard of.

Engine would have been 2.25 petrol - can't help with gearbox number, but it would have been a standard Series 2a box.

Original engine number is 25303910J. This J suffix along with the D suffix chassis number puts you around (post) April 67. IIRC this is when they went to Neg earth as well as the "cranked" handbrake. If you still have the original gearbox, I would be guess it would be an E suffix.

Thanks Paul.
Will look for gearbox number today.
Has the cranked handbrake handle.
Also found same chassis number on the gear change plate.

Gearbox number should be on the upper RH side of the gearbox, just in front of the joint with the transfer case.
